I didn't know someone else could delete my reply unless they called it Spam... It wasn't Spam, so that would be misuse of the Spam button. Anyone know a good attorney?!
What did your original reply say?

What about "Was overweight before OSA and still am"?? That's what my "Other" vote implies...

DD,
When I click on reply to post and scroll down through all the previous posts I can see the posts that are now missing.
They discussed menopause. Some comment was made about maybe having menopause listed. OP came back with a reply like " you can include that in a poll of your own". Can't remember exact wording because that post is completely gone....but I do remember seeing it. Will be interesting to see if this post remains but I have copied it to notepad, just in case.
Someone purposely removed the initial comments.
Here are a few examples of what is missing.
SleepingUgly wrote:It would be useful to poll women who are nowhere close to menopause, which would confound results, as menopause will increase OSA, both by increasing weight and via other hormonal issues.
Anyway, I have always been relatively thin, so there's no relation between SDB and weight for me, although I'm sure every pound I put on does not help.

I'm post menopause (or at worst, still in menopause). Still weigh what I did in college and a bit LESS than I did in high school at 103 lbs.
gvz wrote:Father, brother, and myself all have OSA. We're all about 6 foot in height. Brother is maybe 165lb and is at 12cm. Father was pushing 250lb for a while, but in the past year has gone down to about 180lbs -- and still needs CPAP at 10cm.
For me, I'm nearly 650lbs, with a custom-made CPAP machine that gives me 43cm of pressure. Surprisingly, no centrals. Also I have a mechanical conveyor belt to transfer me to and from the bathroom. Discovery Channel is coming here next week to do a video shoot on me.

I am post menopause too and at menopause was 115lbs (was 105 in university but you could count my ribs - had a locker on the 11th floor and after the riot none of the escalators worked)

I'm working on training the pie hole;
and the shopping/preparation/thinking part that precedes the stuffing part.
This is hard work.

I have had sleep apnea for a long time, just would not do anything about it. Last summer I went on a diet and lost 35 lbs., it did NOT help the sleep apnea. I did the sleep study on Feb 24th and will be getting my cpap this week.

I'm pretty sure I've had patent apnea since childhood.

I was 5 ft 9inches and 120 lbs. when graduated from college and slowly rose to 140. Sat there a long time then quickly rose to 195 while going through menopause and stayed there for about five years. Then I consciously decided to loose weight. As the pounds came off the snoring got so loud was waking my husband. Six months later diagnosed with OSA. Have stayed at 175 +/- a few pounds here and there since then. I've snored since Jr High School according to friends and my parents.

I was overweight before apnea, but OSA didn't help.
I really ballooned when I was thirty-to 450 pounds. I started having problems around the same time. I also had other problems, like Rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid disease. I went on a cpap just before I had bypass surgery, and went off of it when I got home because I hated the nasal mask. I lost over 200 pounds.
But when I had a arthritic flare that left me unable to walk, I regained 60 pounds because of the steroids. In two months. After diddling around with my thyroid meds, and getting off of the steroids, I began to lose weight again.
Then I had a sleep study in late October 2010, went on a cpap with a full face mask, and things have just been getting better. I'm losing weight again, I'm more active and exercising, and I don't care if I don't get off the machine after losing more weight. The machine is just not a big deal any more. And thank goodness for full face masks.
gvz, you said you had a conveyor system in your house to help you get to the bathroom and back-was that easy to get installed? It's one thing to see what's done online, but the real experience is something else. I have a relative who is going to need something, but he doesn't want to go to a nursing home-which I understand-but his wife refuses to use a Hoyer lift-which I understand because she's tiny and seventy five. If you don't want to answer, that's okay.
Robin.

I didn't see the part about the conveyor system in the original post, only that he said he was 650 lbs and that Discovery Channel was coming to film him. I asked if it was true or if he's joking. Apparently Discovery Channel once did a show on a "650-lb virgin", so maybe he is joking. Then gvz (and LoQ) accused me of deleting gvz's original post (this despite the fact that my post was deleted, too ). So, in short, I am not sure if he is serious about this or not, so I don't know whether you are going to get a serious answer to your question. Someone who is more interested than I am could probably search gvz's posts and see if what he's posted in the past is consistent with what he posted here. 43cms of pressure?! He may need someone like Avi on hand to bite his hose so that he doesn't get a pneumothorax. I think the Discovery Channel may like to film THAT.
Hey people

Like LinkC, I voted OTHER. I was fat before OSA, then gained 50# one yr without changing my eating or amt of exercise (doc said I was a normal-sugar diabetic, say what??? what an idiot, the signs of OSA were obvious) -- I date the start of my OSA to just before that year. I kept gaining until my diagnosis 9 yrs later when I switched doctors. I could not lose wt as I became more and more exhausted and muddle-headed . I now weigh what I weighed a few yrs after my apnea began and I still have tons more to lose . Docs say my OSA will likely go away once I lose the extra wt...yeah yeah yeah...I've aged since then, so losing my tether to equipment is something I'm not counting on as I'll still have a narrow jaw and chronic congestion.

Well, bummers, SleepingU. I find medical equipment interesting, and having had to use so much of it when I worked in the hospital (some equipment more useful than others), I always like learning new information in case it could help someone I know.
The 43 cms of pressure should have clued me in. Shoot, now that I think of it, he'ds be blown up tighter than my tires...or she.
Ah, well...thanks for pointing that out.

Didn't get to vote as I guess the poll was closed but I still wanted to comment. I was overweight before OSA but have lost 13 pounds since my sleep study, so that zero would have been a "1" could I have voted.

Just ran into an old friend yesterday who started using CPAP in 1996. At the time he was running 2500 miles per year and was 155 lbs. and 5'10" or BMI 22.
