[quote="Anonymous"]Put it this way. With an AHI under 5 you wouldn't even qualify for being diagnosed with OSA. So 3 is fantastic.

i made a spreadsheet with 5 or 6 charts that update from a main worksheet... so i'm going to track all of the stats that the machine will give me without the res med software. should be interesting to see how they turn out -- i go back to my dr. in about a month to review the first month...

i won't post it all again, but my stats tonight were similar (a little less pressure still, a fraction more on the AHI) so with 2 days down, all looks well.

thanks everyone!

my pressure is still getting lower, and my ahi is still < 5.

and yet i feel better -- i can't imagine how different it feels for people with really high AHI's....

now here's my question: what if after 30 days i go back and they're like 'maybe we were wrong, you don't have OSA, give us that machine back' ?

i could always just shell out the cash for one, but in this (hypothetical) case i'm sure the doc wouldn't write the 'scrip for one...

LOL! You should be so lucky. But you're feeling better and that's the key. Like many told me when I looked too much at my numbers, go by how you feel. That is the most important thing. And I'm so happy for you that you're feeling better. It's great when you see that it's working. Gives you your life back, or should I say the power to take it back on your own.

driver8, I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to borrow this topic tomorrow (more likely Wednesday) as I'm taking delivery of my new machine to replace the current one that's been wearing out slowly but gradually.

Thanks!

Ok, so as promised I'm borrowing this topic. In January 2001, GWB was just taking office after the whole hanging chad debate, you had never heard of Al Qaeda and you still kept confusing Iran and Iraq, the Yankees were a good baseball team and the Red Sox still hadn't won the World Series (I'm from Boston...all you Yankee fans, don't start with me). Yep, it was a whole different world. I was suffering terribly from OSA and assumed that that was going to be my lot in life. I got this new thing. It was a Horizon Sunrise with a Mirage Ultra II mask, and it changed my life.

Now, fast forward to this afternoon. I took delivery of my new sleep partner. Love it love it love it. I've gotta say it's so damn cute I can't stand it. And it's quiet!! ResMed S8 Escape with the heated humidifier. I love that the humidifier is integrated with the unit, and I only need one length of tubing instead of a second one to connect to the humidifier. Did I mention it's quiet? I can't wait to go to sleep tonight!!

David,

Are you a journalist? You have fun-to-read posts.

Good luck with your new bed partner. Hope you have many wonderful nights together. Keep us posted .

Well, first night complete, and I'm happy, though admittedly there's no "Wow!" factor. It's the same mask I've always had and the same pressure, so there's no real giant, discernable change upfront. The S8 is significantly quieter than the old Horizon, which is a big plus. Also, its compactness will be a big boon when I travel. I think the biggest difference for me off the bat is a new sense of peace of mind. For the first time I have a machine that will monitor the performance overnight and be able to download its metrics for analysis. I was told I'll get the chip in the mail in a few weeks or so, and they'll send the printout both directly to me and to my sleep doc.

Originally I had a terrible, basically incompetent and apathetic DME provider, but I've been fortunate with this one over the past few years and I'm very pleased with their sense of customer service and expertise. So I do feel well taken care of now, which counts for a lot.
