Likely never for Resmed.
I avoided the firmware upgrades for my XM Inno, as it was perfectly functional already, and I heard the 'upgrade' was to reduce capability.
If Resmed were to offer an upgrade, I would smell a rat.

It adds humidifier pre-heat, the ability to stop the beeping, and the ability to lock in the hose length so the patient cant change it.
Your machine has to already be on 2.XX to update to software version 2.50 using the flash utility. The utility is for Trained Service Accounts only and compatible with windows xp.
Does this still require a special cable, and if so, where does one get it? (for that matter, where does one get the utility?)

Just got my Pr 1 back from warranty repair (had one month left to run!). Seems to be fixed.
The firmware has been updated from 2.01 to 2.52. I'm guessing v2.52 is the latest version.

Bumping this, in case anyone has some information:

It looks like we are paying big bucks for the opportunity of beta testing these S1s for PR, ya think?
Well after looking at this post, I had to go check my machine. We now have another version!
v.1.20

OUCH!!!
I love this Forum. It has been a source of extremely valuable information. However, sometime I think “ignorance is bliss.”
March 23, 2012 (Two Days Ago!) Apria delivered me a "NEW" PR System One BiPAP autoSV Advanced.
On November 23, 2011, when Apria delivered my S9 Elite, I accepted it without question. Then I found this Forum and through postings "learned" that "DMEs sometime dispense 'used equipment'". I found out how to check and sure enough they gave me a “Used Machine.”
So, the first thing I did last Friday was to “Make sure it was a new machine with ZERO hours.” Yep, it was!
This is more confusing because the machine and humidifier have numbers 20120203 and 20120124 respectively, which would "appear" to be dates in 2012!! But, below I have pasted pictures of the BiPAP and the screen showing
V1.02.
How can that possibly be?

Don't confuse your firmware version on your machine (ASV model) with the other reported versions which are from people with PR S1 APAP or "Plain" BiPap machines.
Two different animals. The ASV machines are so very new and their firmware is going to be different than the APAP or the regular BiPap machines firmware.
I would imagine that there haven't been any firmware upgrades to the ASV models yet. They are so new.
Even the PR S1 regular Bipaps (not ASV) have been out for a long time.
The ASVs only since last summer.

Thanks Pugsy,
That makes me feel better. I just "assumed" that most, if not all, of the S1 models came out near the same time.

No they actually came out in stages. Probably like the stages you will see with the new 60 series machines and I am betting that the last to go over to 60 series will be the ASV machines so I would not look for them anytime soon. Respironics didn't even offer a M series ASV machine like yours. They used the tank model until last summer....and the M Series models were released at least in 2007 because I had one made in 2007.
The PR S1 APAP and regular BiPaps have been out probably 2 years or more. I know the first PR S1 APAP came out in the fall/winter of 2009 not too long after I started therapy.

To add to Pugsy's comment - the algorithm for the straight cpap versions of the PRS1 is very different from the higher-level machines. So they are very likely to be on different tracks regarding firmware upgrades.

Just a heads up, if anyone ever figures out how to obtain one of these cables, they have just released a new firmware flasher on 09/11/2012 that brings machines up to version 2.53
PR System 1 Flash Upgrade Utility 2.53 09/11/2012
Philips Respironics System 1 Flash Upgrade Utility is used to upgrade devices with current software version 2.XX to software version 2.53

IMO, We are in desperate need of a rogue sleep tech or a disgruntled PR employee to give up the goods! Usually for firmware upgrades to access the Read Only Memory or ROM chips on the motherboard, plus supply the required 12v 'reburn/reprogram' voltage, you need a cable called a null modem cable (probably showing my age here). Sooooo, if there's a D-17 connecter (?) on my PR Sys One 550 similar to what a null modem requires, then aliens have hidden it really well. Maybe it doubles as a portal to another dimension?

Absolutely inept means of updating their product. I'd like to know the stats on how many machines in use are ever upgraded like this, not counting machines sent in for repair service of course. If you can't get a reasonable, sane way of delivering firmware upgrades to your products, they likely won't happen, absent a recall.
I would definitely take the time to get my machine in for service to have the firmware upgraded (yeah, backlight gitch, this means you).
But how many other people would do so? -- Absent a recall notice or something similar, where patients are directly notified by the manufacturer and warned they must come in for an update.
If Resmed or Respironics are truly serious about upgrading their firmware, they have to get real on how to do it. Because the machines are not internet ready, the only way would be to transfer a download via the SIM chip, accesed by patients and downloaded via the internet onto the SIM. However, I wonder if even that would be technically possible, and/or whether a 2 GB chip is large enough to store a firmware upgrade. An add-on wi-fi modem would be a nice option, but they don't yet offer that.
Having to take a machine in to a specialist for a firmware download means very few machines will ever be affected -- which is very bad in my opinion.

Confirmed. I have 1.20 as well.
So at this point, the following versions have been seen in the wild:
v.1.07 (could change time from GMT)
v.1.13
v.1.22
v.1.24
v.2.01
v.2.02
v.2.50
v.2.51
v.2.52
I found a
YouTube Video where an (ex?) Apria RT explains how to attach the external cellular modem (PR part #100200C) to a DS series xPAP. Judging from the 7-pin connector on the back of my unit, I strongly suspect it's using JTAG rather than RS-232.
EDIT: Then again, I could be wrong - it's a modified 4-pin RS-232. JTAG is available, but you have to remove the system board.

It won't be JTAG but it could be 3.3v TTL style logic.
A good photo of the modem side of the connector would be helpful...
I looked at mine and was wondering if they used an edge card thinking no one in their right mind would use that today...
I'll have to take a better look at my machine when it comes back.

Not sure if this is the same thing? When I initially turn my PRS1 APAP mine shows V2.5 I just bought the machine 7 months ago from CPAP.com?
