Most of the people "bricking" electronics after a firmware flash is because they did not follow the proper procedure. Of course, this is true for the vast majority of problems. I guess it can happen even if the proper procedure was followed, but I have never had any problems.
What are the odds that sleep deprived people will make a mistake?

Think of what all the condensation must be doing to the humidity in the humidifier and you can almost guarantee some of that humidity is getting back into the PAP unit itself, don't you think??
From what I understand, it is basically a one-way valve between the pap and the humidifier...the air passes one direction only. Supposedly, no matter how much the machine is jostled around, the water will not get into the pap.
Not that I recommend trying it! But I only take my tank out every few days to add more water to it. It is never out of my machine for more than about 5 minutes, unless it is out for a deep/dishwasher cleaning. I am not one bit concerned.

While I totally agree with you, I think the reality is that "most" cpap users have no interest in such things. When I got my first cpap, I asked my RT (at the DME) if there was software available for it. (I knew there was, I was just asking). He was not aware of any, but said that I was his
FIRST patient who had ever asked! I was even the
first to ask if I could see my nightly AHI/leak on the machine itself! (And, no, he's not a newbie to this business.) I think in reality, we here at cpaptalk.com, who care about and are active members of our treatment, are a rare breed. I don't think that justifies the price of the software, or that it is not just an easy download from either the SD card or their website. But I think it does give some insight into why it is maybe "just not that important" to the company (there are just too few of us).

blakepro, I've been thinking of the update question and remember you said:
Mine is version V1.07
That's the version which still allowed changing the GMT offset, right? If so, your machine has an advantage envied by those who have different work shifts / sleep patterns, or who live in western time zones. You can choose when the data calculations occur, so that normal sleep sessions aren't broken into two days. Upgrade the firmware and you can get your classic humidification, but the machine can't be changed ever again.
I'd think the ability to change the time offset is a selling point on CPAPAuction.
If Phillips Respironics engineers (or marketing!) folks ever read this here is what I'd beg, at minimum, to have added in firmware updates, listed highest priority first:
1. daily AHI on the screen in the user's info menu. (you want to keep up with the competition PR, this needs changing!)
1a. OA, CA, H breakdown on the screen would be an added bonus (again, the competition is pulling ahead). Putting this in the user's info menu (or DME setting to choose that option) and at least having it in the Clinician's menu where those who care can find it.
2. Average leak for the day rather than the useless "large leak" percentage.
3. the ability to choose a different time for the data-calculation on the machine, at least at the first set-up, similar to what v1.07 could do (or however implemented). I'm doing o.k. with GMT noon, but would have chosen something better.
4. the ability to switch CFLEX types (CFLEX, CFLEX+, or even zero or "off" within them) from the user menu. (it is MY comfort feature, not a prescription!)
5. the ability to see the total machine hours from the user menu. (I like to keep track, maybe I'm unique)

is the standard reply when -
1 - they don't know
2 - they don't want you to know
IF this RT didn't know about the software, I wonder how they were getting the data for compliance. Certainly you can get it directly off the machine but I thought that standard way was off the card bc it is less time consuming. How could they possibly be of any help to their patients IF they don't use the software? How? You didn't fall for that, did you?
We may be in the minority but that is not a reason to be silent.
btw - those other features you are asking for - are readily available, just ask your long time DME

Of course he knows about the software. He uses it every day. But he did not know of a
PATIENT version of the software. He was actual pleased to know about it when I told him.

Of course not. Did I ever say that we should be silent? Did I not say that I think the software should be readily available? I was just pointing out one possible
REASON for why it is not currently readily available.

Was this for me? I don't think I was asking for features. I am actually VERY pleased with my PR S1! Sure, there is always room for improvement, but I am not complaining one bit.

I had read a previous post about changing the humidification to 'classic' but could not seem to do it. Maybe this is why.
I checked my version and it is 1.13. I've had my System One about a year.

Wow that's lots of diff versions, let's see if I can remember them all posted so far.
1.07
1.13
1.24
2.01
Did I miss any? Wish we could find out what the changes fixed?

Ya only missed one, Gumby.
v.1.07 (could change time from GMT)
v.1.13
v.1.22
v.1.24
v.2.01
It looks like we are paying big bucks for the opportunity of beta testing these S1s for PR, ya think?

NO, sorry for the confusion. I should have quoted - I must have been rushed and skipped that part. So here it is.

I couldn't agree more guess there are just too few of us to be important to Respironics.
Add a daily chart (graph) on the LCD for leaks, pressure, and events to this wish list.

This could be changed in older versions of the Encore. What were they thinking when they removed this?
SleepyCPAP wrote:4. the ability to switch CFLEX types (CFLEX, CFLEX+, or even zero or "off" within them) from the user menu. (it is MY comfort feature, not a prescription!)
This is the one I meant is already available but MUST be enabled by your friendly DME.
SleepyCPAP wrote:

See 1 & 2 above. I am happy to see it still in the clinical menu.
To be clear, I also am very happy with my PRS1 - just confused why they so often remove useful features from new models or software versions.
Like what? Maybe we should list the features we miss. I'll go now -
1. The HH pre-warm feature in the tanks models. It would warm the water for 20 min then turn off if the blower wasn't started.
2. Being able to change the Start-of-Day in Encore 1.8 to a normal day like midnight to midnight.
The electronics and design were already done for both of these. What were they thinking? $$
What else?

I have v1.24, so I edited my post on a humidifier thread to include the version number. Now I know to add my version number to how-to posts.
For PR System One Auto APAP with version 1.24 firmware (to check your version, pull the plug and plug back in, it will show up on the LCD screen):
To change from System One humidification to classic, access the Provider Mode by turning wheel to Setup and press control wheel and ramp button at same time for 5 seconds until double beep.
While in Provider Mode turn wheel to Setup and press to select,
scroll to SYSTEM ONE humidification (you will only see SYSTEM at first, but the text will scroll through SYSTEM ONE Humidification, it is one line up from Humidifier where you set the 0-5 value) and press to select,
turn wheel to select OFF and press to select (you will now see that on the next line below for Humidifier, the value now includes a "C"),
turn wheel to Back and press to select, and
turn wheel to Exit and press to exit Provider Mode.
To change it back, just follow the above steps and dial in either on/off at the SYSTEM ONE Humidification menu item.

Well after looking at this post, I had to go check my machine. We now have another version!
v.1.20

Hi GumbyCT
I didn't realize a couple features from the "Tank" model were not carried forward. That Humidifier pre-heat would be nice!
You responded to my wish-list about the CFLEX settings:
SleepyCPAP wrote:4. the ability to switch CFLEX types (CFLEX, CFLEX+, or even zero or "off" within them) from the user menu. (it is MY comfort feature, not a prescription!)
This is the one I meant is already available but MUST be enabled by your friendly DME.
I only see the ability to change from "CFLEX" to "CFLEX+" or "NONE" in the Clinician menu. Once I've chosen one of those, then the User Menu shows my choice, and I can choose Level 1, 2, or 3 from the User menu screen. But there is no "0". Are you saying this "0" could be set up by a DME, so that I could have 0,1,2,3? I don't see it in the menu, but perhaps you are saying it is done through EncorePro? Or can the DME make it so that I can do a quick change in the night from CFLEX to CFLEX+ without digging into the Clinician menu, that it would all be there on the User screen?
I learn something new every day on this forum. Thank you -- you and others have so much knowledge and experience to share.
I ask because there are nights I wake up and find then I can't get back to sleep with CFLEX+ going, it starts to feel as if it is forcing regularity in my breaths when I'm awake... but plain (not "+") CFLEX seems comfortable -- or even just switching it off might seem a choice sometimes.

I have spoken from memory - memory of the M series.
Keep in mind that I have a BiPap. You would think they those "flex" and other features would be the same. But then this collection of firmware changes could also make some differences. I was able to change Flex to 1,2, or 3 but not to OFF, go figure. Firmware V1.24
Maybe we are both missing something? Maybe Respironics missed it?
So after looking at both my manual and the machine, I stand corrected. Cflex - used to was an option you could set in the clinical menu so the user could set it for their preference. Apparently we can add that to the list of "Features we miss". Any bets there must be more?
It will be useful in future posts asking questions about the PRS1 to include the firmware version. ie. PRS1 v1.24 - that may also help us sort out the differences in firmware revisions.
Recompiling the firmware list we know about -
v.1.07 (could change time from GMT)
v.1.13
v 1.20
v.1.22
v.1.24
v.2.01
Any others out there?
