I thought the machines hold a week's worth of data on them at a time.. but I could be wrong.

Xena,
S8's use a smart card (which is what his VPAP uses). S9's use an SD card (like what you've got)

And the S8 Vpap ONLY holds 2 days of
detailed data.

Resmed isn't concerned, but the US FDA is, and the FDA sets the regulations.

Not quite sure that statement is true Bill. Other manufacturers have no problem letting patients get their full data from their machines.
EVEN Resmed has "eased up"
a little with their S9 series by switching to a standard SD card. WHY they don't want S8 users to have that same access is anyone's guess.

My understanding is that Resmed's ResCan and Respironics' EncorePro professional softwares allow for changing the therapy settings via the software to the data card to the PAP as the reason for requiring their purchase be limited to "by or on the order of a physician". Respironics developed EncoreViewer software specifically for patients and therapy settings can NOT be changed via the EncoreViewer software and data card. That is the reason for the FDA limiting the purchasing/selling of ResScan and EncorePro software "by or on the order of a physician".

That's very interesting, thanks.
It does't make any sense to me. I'm sure the majority of patients who monitor their therapy are informed enough to go into their PAP and change their settings without the software. Ya' gotta love Government Regulations!

Thank you, BeachGirl. It is also my understanding that it is pretty only North America (due to FDA in US & don't know the name of Canadian authority) that restrict patient's access to their PAP data.

How do you download the data from your Resmed S 9 Elite CPAP into a laptop?
I got this SD card:
http://www.staples.com/SanDisk-8GB-SDHC ... rea=SEARCH
and this card reader:
http://www.staples.com/Sony-USB-Memory- ... rea=SEARCH
what else do you need?

You also need the software - someone here may be able to point you in the right direction for that.
