After further examination of Resmed's document it looks like the Resmed machines aren't as power hungry as I thought. The amp-hour requirements listed in that document have a "50% safety margin".

My understanding is that the S9 requires an inverter which reduces efficiency by about 50%. The key is to have a device that you can supply with straight DC.

Inverters aren't THAT inefficient. They are usually between 85-95% efficient. Many people run their heated humidifier when on an inverter though and that WILL increase the load so you would need about double the battery power. But if you can turn off the heat on the humidifier then you are almost as good as straight DC. Does your machine have the option to turn off the heat on the humidifier?
