HI!
I just wrote a question about the ResMed S9 autoset vantage that I started using Monday & now Tuesday. I am having problems with it's loudness and noise and actual echoing in my ears as though it is vibrating into my head. For sure if I lie on the pillow on either side, that ear is like a receiver amplified with wind noise.
SO WHY AM I WRITING? Because I would like to have your experience report and IF you are having similar noise problems , I don't believe you have to keep the machine--you might be in a position to ask to try a different model within a limited time period. I would not like for you to miss out on the opportunity of getting the best fit for your equipment.
Will appreciate your post on how you are doing with your new machine.

Until being switched to a bi-level I had a Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and it was quiet. I didn't experience any of the noise you are having a problem with.
The AutoSet Vantage was a new model in 2006. It was replaced by the S8 AutoSet II in 2008 and by the S9 AutoSet in 2010.
So I take it that this AutoSet Vantage you are having noise problems w/is NOT a new PAP. How many total hours are on it? It may just be old, sick and tired. Its approaching 5 years of age. Take a look on the bottom for the serial number. The first 4 digits are the year it was manufactured and the next 2 digits are the month it was manufactured. Of course, there's no telling how long it sat on the DME provider's shelf until you got it .....
The aging process doesn't start w/a Resmed's manufacture date, nor when it hits the providers shelf, the aging process starts when it is first used by the patient. The Respironics' aging process starts w/when it hits the DME provider's shelf - unless PR has changed their warranty recently.

The new Resmed 9 Auto is a great machine so far--it is so quiet I can't believe the differene between this one and my old RS8--wow~~~!! It does take up more room on my small step stool that I have by my bedside table so it is lower than my head. I have to turn it to the side too so my menu is to the side ---:( but it is a great quiet machine with lots of great and wonderful features!!

So, the next model S10 AutoSet should be out in 2012 if they follow this 2 year schedule?

Dear Carrie,
Congratulations on your new s9! I had the doctor give me a prescription for John's Climate Line hose and the DME sent it and the insurance paid for it, because of the doctor's scrip. I think it is worth it because we can choose the temperature and then set the humidity on auto and NEVER get any rain out.
I started out on my journey before my husband so I have an s8, but I have no complaints, since I have an Aussie heated hose for the winter and a pad a cheeck fleece cover for my hose in the spring. I think that both machines are pretty quiet...just a little white noise.
Enjoy your new s9!
Fondly,
Jersey Girl

Hi guys--yeah the smiley face ---LOL! hahahahaa!! too funny. The machine is so quiet --I have to check to see if it is still working sometimes. I did not get the Climate Line heated hose--I live in Arizona--I don;t NEED anymore heat!! It is the desert for pete's sake. hahahaha! I have the Pad A Cheeks fleece hose cover and I never get any rainout.
The machine is working out well. I am getting ready to adjust it a bit--4 to start is a bit low. I might change the setting to 6 to 10 instead of 4 to 10. I already turned the ramp off. I am feeling better with teh Auto than I did with the straight CPAP machine.
The titration night changed my pressure of "7" to an "8" but in looking at the numbers in the morning on my new machine ------I am hovering around a 9 these days--which is wierd.
