Hmm.... Some really interesting thoughts put forth here. Some good ideas on ways to correct that squeak as well.....
I might try to wash first and failing that, use the Dremel at low speed with a soft buffing wheel on it first to see if that provides a longer term fix. See if I can do it dry to keep it from collecting stuff. Maybe will put just a dash of lubricant on for good measure....

If Cleaning with soap n water the soap will help to lubricate. You may already have Ayr gel (or KY), or Lansinoh on hand.

I vote for the nipple grease. I put it on my nose every night and it hasn't killed me yet.

I applied teflon tape about eight months ago; It worked perfectly. Immediately the squeaking stopped, noise levels while resting really dropped, and my overall leak rates vitually flat-lined. No muss, no fuss, no odors, and its totally reversible.
And I finally got around to fixing the leaking shower head .......

Spray a little non-butter flavored Pam on a q-tip and run it around the offending area.

Well..... seeing I am a member of 'everybody' LOL - I tried KY on the hose swivel ........ without success. Today I'll try washing and buffing - a combo of 2 other suggestions, before I move onto other high-tech ideas.
Cheers,
