True as a general rule, but not so on this forum.

1. When you've been here long enough, and posted enough posts, you find a "report spam" at the right upper corner of each and every post in the forum. That means you are now trusted to delete spam posts in the interest of protecting this forum from spammers.
2. This "time on the forum AND number of posts" limitation was actually initiated because of Polysomnoman the trolling sleep tech, who was removing posts left right and center, and changing identities in order to do that.
3. This policy has been in effect since April 2009, it was suggested by a member, and voted on by the community.

Ozij, thanks for posting this information. I wasn't aware of the SPAM button policy, probably because I came in after April of 2009.

For what it's worth, I have never used the SPAM button here. I have an internal definition of what SPAM is and that seems to be along the same lines as Johnny. Even when I've been ready to beat my fists on my screen because a post makes me angry, it never occurred to me to use the SPAM button. I don't believe in abusing privileges and misuse of the SPAM button to get rid of posts I don't like would be stupid, IMHO. First off, it wouldn't take one or two before I would lose the ability as Johnny has indicated. Secondly, the subsequent posts WOULD still be there (hint, hint) and I would have lost my credibility to report real SPAM posts.

Ozij, I'm glad it wasn't just me that morning. It looks like it's still happening -- post, delete, post, delete. I miss a lot when I go to bed....

That's probably an indication you should turn off the computer and find something else to do.

You do not have to use a wooden baseball bat.

For domestic use I recommend the rubber coated plastic one's - something like this -

Using this type means you cannot hurt yourself or others - unless you are into prodding.

A good swing is the best - using your voice as well.

While I realize the person in the avatar - probably not the poster, has the swastika as an eastern religious symbol of peace, it is not what it means to westerners who are the large majority of the board. For this reason most people who follow the eastern traditions will NOT use this kind of avatar in a public forum as a courtesy to others. So no, the argument that is is an ok religious symbol will not fly.

It's actually true. The symbol is known as the manji in Buddhism and is used as a symbol of harmony or balance. It's said that the Buddha was laid to rest with the symbol painted on his chest and you'll find many images of the Buddha that have the manji on them. I actually have a small Buddha sculpture that has it. Most traditional Buddhist texts also have a manji as the very first character.

It's also frequently used by Hindus and Jains although it has a slightly different meaning to them. I don't know much about those disciplines so I can't comment on exactly how they use it.

If you travel to the east you'll see it frequently on Buddhist temples and shrines. If you ever go to Taipei you'll pass a beautiful Buddhist temple on the way in from the airport that makes extensive use of the symbol. Westerners are often shocked when they see it. The Chinese, though, see it for it's religious meaning. If you react to it your taxi driver will look at you like you're crazy.

Unfortunately the Nazis decided that this would make a nice object for their movement. It's a real shame that something that has been associated with peace and charity for thousands of years had to be dirtied with that legacy.

I agree that the avatar was offensive, though, because it clearly presented the symbol as the Nazi swastika in it's traditional German colors and not as the manji. I guess there's just no accounting for taste.
