I thought you could get electrocuted while on the phone in your home from lightening. Is that right? Could that happen with CPAP? (Seems like a long-shot... but I really don't understand how things can be so dangerous.)
Oh my, I hope your cousin is going to be okay, that is unbelievable!
there have been some discussions about the cpap and lightening here..

Oh Dori, thunder storms are NOT a good thing for some of us!

I enjoy thunder as long as it isn't loud enough to shake the house. My dogs aren't bothered at all either. Maybe because we aren't. We have a chihuahua and a jack russel.

Our entire house, including two cats, usually sleep just fine through storms. We will wake up if there is a nearby lightning strike that creates a very loud thunderclap -- and then the cats race to the window sills and watch the storm. I have a CPAP battery, so I don't really care if the power goes out -- except that the air conditioning goes out.

Before Cpap I used to wake up about half the time, I love to watch and listen to the thunder, lightning and rain. I would just lie there until the storm was over and then drift off to sleep. Now with cpap I sleep through everything, a couple of weeks ago a possum came up on our deck, right outside our open bedroom window. It made a lot of racket, so I am told, knocking stuff off the table, knocking over chairs. Our two dogs, who sleep with us just went wild barking, running around the bed and me. I didn't wake up or move at all. My wife had to get up turn the lights on and yell at the possum, to chase it off. I slept through the whole thing, my wife had to tell me about it in the morning.

Storms rarely wake me.
Lightning struck a huge cottonwood in our yard--I slept right through it.
Reason--We live less than 500' from the busiest railroad tracks in town.
We're used to the 100-plus coal trains a day (Gillette coal to K.C. electric plant.). . .
I even walked the dog next to the tracks on the fourth of July--train drowned out the fireworks--didn't bother him a bit..

I can tune out my wife but not thunder. Our daughter usually wakes up and worries. The dogs don't like it, and pace in the house...the horses are usually in the barn when weather is rainy, but they don't like it so I wonder how they are doing and find it hard to go back to sleep. It kinda wakes the whole house, but it is pretty to watch. john

Thanks for your concern elena88. The friend that he was with already was released from the hospital. We're hoping he'll be able to go home by next week. He had skin grafts yesterday. We're still waiting for results to rule out brain damage. But, he's starting to speak a bit and took a few small steps over the weekend.
We're having more heavy storming tonight. Just had some golf ball sized hail!! The thunder & lightening is completely nuts!!! I wonder if I could get electrocuted using the computer? My aunt won't use her phone because she's so afraid.

I've tried and tried to tune out my wife and all she does is get really mad at me when I try. What's the key to success?

I saw this topic this morning and laughed. last night, I would have said the change in air pressure keeps me up until the storm finally arrives, then i can go to sleep. But this morning i woke up and a storm had passed over and it was gently raining in the aftermath. So much for my theory about air pressure. I guess it was mainly apnea. And I thought I was special! LOL
