It's all part of mania, Jimbo. The hypergraphia is a significant symptom as well. It's more common this time of year - there are theories that it's related to reduction in daylight hours. Some people go in the spring instead, some go with both, some don't seem to have that as a trigger.

Unfortunately night shift work is a known trigger for those at risk. Ironic - those who help us, as sleep techs, put their own health at risk by working nights, and the more irregular the hours, the higher the risk. (There are other risks besides triggering mania, of course.)

Mania is no joke. I'm not making light of it. It costs lives, careers, relationships. It causes much human suffering.

So now that he is banned, all his stuff will be deleted right?

Gosh, GVZ, I think you are a valued and very well respected member of this forum.. Its just that when I go into critical thinking mode,
and I mean, a questioning mode, I have to admit to you, that I was rabidly curious as to why you wanted to associated yourself with
Calist, as he was so obviously spreading ill will and misinformation here, and even attacking some of our members and upsetting them
pretty badly.. I mean when he accused Madalot of being a plant here to sell ventilators, and that her illness was probably made up, that
was beyond the borders of what any rational kind person would do.. She was so upset, she had the worst night of her life..
THIS HURT HER... why would anyone want to do that? and why would anyone want to associate or make a calll to someone who did that?

So, yes, I will admit, I did not understand why you wanted to contact such a person, let alone have a friendly chat with him..

I do not have a torch in my hand, by the way.......but you should know, when you support somoene who is hurting others, that gives that person
more inclination to keep it up... and that doesnt make the person choosing to contact the abuser and saying he's seems like a nice guy,
a victim by any means.

Thanks for this Elena. Everything you said here is true. My logical brain tells me that a person on the internet shouldn't be able to upset me that much. I am 100% honest in all my dealings and conversations and to be accused otherwise is pretty insulting. I don't come here to play games with people.

Part of what really gets me is that I'm not positive, but I don't think cpap.com sells ventilators (do they???) and even if they did, they are not cheap. I've been told that my ventilator is anywhere from $10,000 - $15,000, besides which I will never own it. I have to rent it for the rest of my life. So to be accused of making it up as a plant for cpap.com is just bizarre.

But I also agree with what another poster said, either here or in another thread, that he was very good at what he did -- and that is to inflame situations, upset people and basically wreck havoc on an otherwise reasonably calm and tame place.

There's a part of me that actually feels sorry for someone like that. Even during my worst times, I have never felt the need to inflict pain and anguish on others simply because I could.

I guess it depends on whether he mostly lurks or whether he actively posts. If he actively posts, it will depend on how much self-control he has. If he has little, yes, I think his M.O. will seep out and will be recognized by those who read his original posts.

But I am still curious how the banning works. Is it just an IP address that gets blocked, but access to other computers would allow posting? I'm not looking to find out for myself... I would hate to have this happen:

I know, I know - I am "twisted" according to you, Elena - but I won't let your comment injure my e-feelings or dissuade me from this post.

I wonder about the point you, and many others here, are making about being "hurt."

It seems to me there is a VERY simple solution to becoming upset over what someone 'writes' in an internet forum - and that is - STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. If the pain persists each time you visit the site - DON'T VISIT. The pain will subside. Simple.

If someone is getting upset, they are in some way giving over 'power' to the person who is pushing their buttons. I could get all twisted up about the ad hominem disparagement a couple of this forums long-term members have engaged in - or even your pejorative reference Elena - but I won't. I know the truth, and whether you or anyone else at this forum care to take the time to see it is, in the grand scheme of things, totally inconsequential. You have no power to make me feel badly or HURT me.

Interestingly, y'all were so spun up about all of this that even the mere suggestion that it might be more productive (and healthy) to just calm down was met with ridiculous allegations that were totally unfounded. It is very clear to even a rank newbie that there are a number of folks here who have established bonds far beyond the virtual realm. That is wonderful. Clearly there are some generous and kind and caring people here - and there are some who are in dire need of their caring support. There are also some who are so protective of their 'position' within this community they allow their zeal to cloud their judgment and engage in behavior that will drive people away. There are posts every single day from someone(s) who feels so driven. Y'all really do NOT handle opinions that run counter to the group-think that exists here well at all.

Calist was a troll. In spite of that, he made some posts that were of value to someone who is not so emotionally invested as many of you who are posting in this topic and who obviously relish his demise. This is not a statement of support for Calist. It is merely my opinion - assuming I am entitled to have one that might conflict with the masses here. I am ambivalent to his departure - though somewhat concerned about some of you and the psychology of allowing someone on the internet to cause you real-life pain - but not so concerned/invested that I will let your predictable responses upset or "hurt" me.

Maintain your perspectives and there is little chance the electrons someone sends across the internet are going to result in your feeling "hurt".

I think it's time for everyone to put away all the emotion and move on. I certainly have leaned a lot from the Calist debacle, haven't we all? I see nothing wrong with wanting to talk to Calist on a friendly level - it is a free country (at least for now). So how about an olive branch?

I posted that thread about Calist because I was concerned at the emotional damage that was going on here. Johnny Goodman's thread about banning Calist certainly was followed by sentiments that echoed my own. The bottom line is that Calist probably has already come back in some form or another - but that is now rendered irrelevant.
