Aha! One of my Asthma symptoms is coughing, especially at night. And I've had some mild coughing lately.
Hmmm, I'm going to have to rig up some sort of "filter retention device". Maybe I'll use a bit of cardstock to cut out a window just slightly smaller than the intake "window" and tape it in place.
I sure wish those machine manufacturers would talk to real users before designing machines. I know they do focus groups, but they decide what the issues will be before they ever talk to real users.

How about using a large, thin rubber-band that encircles the entire machine including the filter port?

Yes, I was thinking about that too.

The "whisper cap" that was produced for the M Series machines was a black plastic box about 2" by 2" square and had a small hole in one outside corner. It was a real study to put it on and take it off!
You may be able to find it on cpap.com to see what it is like. I can't find mine. I was going to se if it fit on my System One but I didn't like it anyway and it was really meant for noise reduction I think.

I'm thinking the easiest (and least ugly!) thing might be to just tape a little barrier on two diagonal corners with small pieces of card stock. It will be easy enough to bend the filters slightly to tuck them behind these barriers (I'm probably not explaining this too clearly) and they would cover only a very small portion of the filter.
I'll have to do some "arts and crafts" over the weekend.

I think you are explaining it very well! I can picture it and may do the same with my machine!!!
Thanks!

Wow, learn something new every day. I was wondering why I would find the filters on the floor lately. I am trying this new hybrid mask and have been sneezing lately. It makes sense that I am blowing those filters out. I like the card idea. Think I'll try it tonight. Thanks

The System One will be shipping with a white filter very soon that doesn't have any tabs on it, so hopefully that fixes the issue of flying filters. I think this is different than what it currently ships with. I never really paid attention so hopefully I'm not incorrect.

The new filter (1063096) was developed about 6 months ago by Respironics to fit bette rinto the PR System 1 machiens and reduce noise levels dramatically. Found some on google cpap filters - I think some of these websites sell the new ones designated (1063096).
