XPAP electric use isn't costly, cut out one cigarette, beer, bong hit, or fatboy,use the saved money to run your XPAP, you will be healthier and have money left over, to purchase extra minutes for your Obama Phone.

I have an Engineer that works for me and he told me that two years ago he requested and received a significantly lower rate structure from PG&E due to his cpap use...just needed a physician note....his bill went from an average of $160 a month to $45 a month.

Don't believe it....it's BS. Just guessing, but I bet CPAP usage in most places costs less than $10 mo. in electricity.

Lower rates or even prioritized power restoration is generally not available for cpap users.
I would hope that oxygen concentrators should get some consideration, but it is not the case here.
Power outages are much less frequent where lines are underground, so it is often a neighborhood problem.
Support your local power supplier in maintenance and upgrades, even if it requires rate increases.

If you live in a standard U.S. residence (or probably a standard residence in most of the rest of the world), the amount of electricity use to run your CPAP will be a small fraction of your total electric bill, even with a heated humidifier. For that reason, it's not likely that such a thing would be granted. In 2005, the CPAPs on the market at that time used sightly more than today, but still not significant.

Did you actually have to read any of the posts in this thread to come to this conclusion, or did you just use your natural deduction reasoning to get to this point. Maybe we need to start a poll. Eleven years and many answers, maybe someone wants attention instead of info, or maybe the Obama Phone, and other benefits don't furnish free electric service, so they would like their neighbors to pay for his when they pay for their's. A better plan would be to make arrangements ON YOUR OWN, as "charity begins at home."
Tank oxygen or a power supply is a good plan if your local grid is unreliable.

with Southern California Edison. They have a (4) tiered level of rates, the more you use the more you pay. What applying for the CPAP program does is allow more baseline usage before going into the higher bracket. Winter use saves me nothing, but savings during summer are large as even with A/C use I never get into tier 2. It has nothing to due with what the CPAP uses, but your overall use of electricity. Doctor had to fill out paper work for the first (2) years. The 3rd year he filled out paper work that it was a ongoing need. Now every (2) years I just need to let them know I am not dead yet.

As far as O2 users, DME's prefer to use pumps over Tanks, muss no fuss, hook it up, the user pays for the electric to run it, they don't have to do much.... Jim

Summer rates being higher than in winter, there is a slight advantage for electric heat.

This house had electric heat, it was changed to gas, it is cheaper, but doesn't help me much until it gets under 50 degrees outside, or the wind is blowing, all the electrics I have running heat the house up, then the gas bills start. No, you're trying to screw your neighbor and get something for nothing! The cost of running a cpap is under 50 cents a week. Is that the "discount" you're expecting?

Then your beef is with the California Public Utilities Commission, not PG&E. They set the rates.
Californians want no carbon (minimal coal plants in-state, reducing out-of-state purchases) and no nukes (closing Diablo Canyon).
What is left is relatively expensive to build and operate.

BTW, how do you feel about your water rates?
