Sleep Log 19th day - 5.5 hours sleep – stayed up late working on computer

Went to sleep on stomach slept like a baby - woke up like yesterday

No Brain fog –

No Tiredness or Exhaustion in morning

No Headache in morning

No Choking and swallowing of tongue during night

No Collasping of airways during the night resulting in waking up with heart pounding out of chest and terrified feelings of suffocation and extreme anxiety dreading going back to sleep.

No Waking up gasping for air many mnay times through the night

No Suffocating nightmares or anxious feelings upon awakening to go to the toilet once during the night.

Have a great day I know I will - Chopper.

Sounds like you starting using your CPAP machine again. Good decision!

I don't own a cpap machine - these results have come from practising my Butekyo breathing exercises - see my previous posts or my first post on this thread for more info.

Have a great day I know I will - Chopper.

6 to 9 hours sleep per night with only 3 to 4 wakings during the night
Hmmm, sounds like apnea to me. People without apnea can generally sleep all night without waking every few hours. You might want to get a new sleep test to confirm before you go crowing about how well the method is working.

There's nothing wrong with Buteyko per se. When you are awake and can actively engage in the breathing patterns, it could be very helpful. But you have no business claiming it has "cured" your apnea without the data to prove it. If you are wrong and others stop using their CPAPs to follow your lead, you are responsible for their consequences.

So put your money where your mouth is. Get another sleep study and post the results before and after.
G'Day Janknitz - people can make up their own minds on weather or not to check out the Buteyko breathing Methods for their apnoea I am just a messenger there was no bigger skeptic than me before I started the course - but boy was I desperate man so I ponied up the fee and did the course and I have now gone from waking up 20 times min a night either with sufforcating feelings or totally blocked airways gasping for breath and dreadful feelings of anxiety to scared to fall back a sleep not to mention also the nightmares of someone choking me in my sleep only to wake up choaking for air - ALL THIS TO -
* No Choking
* No Nightmares
* No Anxiety
* No Sufforcating
* No Toally Blocked Airways
* NO numerous trips to the bathroom to urinate
* If I do wake up during the night I am not suffering any of the above symtoms or heavy breathing.

Watch the video above on the website if you need more info. -

p.s. You said - { There's nothing wrong with Buteyko per se. When you are awake and can actively engage in the breathing patterns, it could be very helpful. }

* My answer is that's just it - by doing the Buteyko breathing excerises in the day you RE-SET the brains subconscious breathing pattern and this spills over into your night time sleeping pattern - you then start to become symtom free - AT LEAST i HAVE ANYWAY.

On the issue of the Buteyko curing my sleep apnoea I will say this unless you learn how to breath through your nose at all times and not your mouth you will continue to suffer sleep apnoea symtoms - the way to learn to overcome breathing through your mouth at nightime is to tape your mouth shut with a piece of tape thus if I went for another sleep study to confirm my results { THEY WOULD BE NEGATIVE } as I would be sure to show signs of sleep apnoea breathing forcefully through my mouth as this would cause my upper airways to collapse because the forceful breathing creates a stronger vacuum in the lungs than gentle breathing does. This greater vacuum allows ordinary atmospheric air pressure to suck your tongue back and to collapse the relaxed, narrowed airway when you inhale forcefully.

Take this for what it is worth but I know one thing for sure - I am FREE - It takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the Buteyko method to really kick in although they claim to be able to get you off your cpap in as little as 1 week.

Have a great day I know I will - Choppper.
I suppose this is a "dumb" questions, but an this breathing technique be used in conjunction with using a CPAP? If so, wouldn't the CPAP SW reports indicate whether there is an improvement, or not as a preliminary step to a formal sleep study to confirm results?

Let us all imagine:

1. Chopper goes into a lab tonight. He posts the results. His AHI is 0.0

What will you do? Does this result have the slightest bearing on the validity of his chosen "therapy"?

2. Chopper goes into a lab tonight. He posts the results. His AHI is 60.0.

What will you do? Does this result have the slightest bearing on the validity of his chosen "therapy"?

...

Will any result change his belief system?

Will any result change yours?

See what I'm getting at?

There is a post going now on "the worst advice from this forum" . No one could come up with an answer. Well u just did. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read! My doc took one look at my throat and dx me with sleep apnea before I even Had a sleep study due to an enlarged tongue. How can some breathing techniques make my tongue smaller? I had apnea of 49 times an hour with respiratory events 62/HR. And I never had the symptoms of apnea u described. Before cpap, I could sleep 16 hours with never waking up to gasp. I just stayed in a sleeping coma. I thought I slept well but the exhaustion during the day I could not handle. Everyone has different symptoms but I'm sorry, what u r doing is crazy and life threatening! Its a bunch of b.s. put on ur damn mask and go to bed....
