If you're trying to get me to say I'm the l*ser, it won't work. This is not my first rodeo.

I see that Muffy has weighed in with a better answer. I shall leave it to him.

I'm going to guess that you are not from America. In America, a lot of times when people go somewhere they buy a T-shirt as a souvenir. The T-shirt usually has some print on it, often with words, telling something about the place. It might just be the name of the place you visited.

Several years ago, a saying developed that said, "Been there, done that, got that T-shirt." It means, loosely, that the person has not just a passing familiarity with something but has fully experienced it.

The saying has been shortened to just the last item, "got that T-shirt".

I hope that is what you were looking for.
I understand the expression, but think about it. How many would consider a tourist who visited your area and bought a tee shirt to be any kind of expert on the area?

Since we have a family business making t-shirts (did some sleep apnea ones), I can make one for anyplace about anything without going anywhere. If I were pretentious, I could appear quite well traveled.

Oh, when I saw the title of the thread, I thought it was going to be about the t-shirts with the back pocket for tennis balls to prevent back sleeping. This is more fun.

From one Ohian to another, don't feel bad. I think Cincinnatians have the corner on saying "Please?" when they don't hear what someone said. Do that anywhere else and you're looked at like you're crazy or are asked "Please what?" Must be short for, "Will you repeat that, please?"

OTOH, I own the "What's your pressure?" T-Shirt....and I just ordered the "Hosehead ... a way of life" and the "MaskedMan taking back the night" shirts....

I wore the "What's your pressure?" shirt at Penguicon one year....nobody seemed to get it Wonder if I'll bother wearing any, at upcoming conferences/conventions (going to the NN Conference next month and Chicago Tardis in November).

The Dreamer.

Interestingly, yesterday was also "Wife Appreciation Day".

How'd that work out for everyone?

BTW, September 7 was Salami Day.

Maybe they should combine those 3 together.

Dreamer, too funny. Every time someone orders one of those shirts I wonder if they're someone I "know" from here. I'm surprised you didn't choose WindRider - Taming the Night. Been wanting to redo those and make them more artsy. If having a t-shirt is proof of experience, you are one experienced guy! Haven't seen as much of you here lately. Hope that means you're doing well and busy living life.

My wife doesn't appreciate me talking like a pirate to her.
