You may have to try others before getting one to work.

Prozac makes me jittery and jumpy. I tried two different times, with the same results. Unsure why.

I am taking a low dose of Zoloft after experiencing a nervous breakdown a few years back that lead to a short hospital stay (a week). But along with the meds I sought counselling and had a very good psych doctor -- one that took the time to actually listen and kept good notes. He billed by the hour and when you saw him, you got approximately a 55 minute session, with a few even running over the allotted hour -- billing was the same each time. My daughter was treated years ago by a psych doctor (our insurance didn't cover counselling at the time and paid 50%). Weekly sessions were recommended and we followed his advice. He billed by the hour and we were lucky if he saw her 10 or 15 minutes -- his excuse was that the remainder was taken up "with paperwork". So it shows not all doctors (regardless of type) are alike.

It's also the case that any of the anti-depressants are more likely to be efficacious in seriously ill patients, and less likely in mild to moderately ill ones.
Dr. Cloudy.
Ah, to have the authority of a physician: "Madam, would you be so good as to unbutton your blouse?"

Are you asking if you can play doctor with me?

Oh come on, Cloudy, don't say things like that, lest it taint my inaccurate image of you!

SSRI's tend to work only for some. They all have side effect and none of the side effects are fun - nor do all of them go away. You can kiss your sex life goodbye if you take an SSRI - or at least 90% of people can. That's a big problem. The next biggest problem is that SSRI's lose their effectiveness over time, so you need to be keenly aware if you are still getting any benefit. The strange part is that the side effects never seem to adapt.
