it could be, there was a post on another thread here that someone got something out of resmed saying it was a capacitor in some kind of 'protective circuit'... :scratching head:

I tried hooking mine up while it was disassembled, but it didn't make any ticking noises, I was hoping to hear something and be able to pinpoint it.

the humidifier isn't as easy to open up as the blower. the two clips on the bottom near the back are tricky.

I was just about to google this when mine started clicking also. Then I thought surely someone else on here has the same problem, and I found this thread. Going to try and call my dme and ask tomm or next week.

This is a very annoying problem that would stop me getting another S9. I often find myself manually unplugging the machine when not in use because of the clicking noise. Sounds like only solution is another manufacturer or the S10, wherever that hits.

it's not a switch, I just took one of my humidifiers apart, and there's no switches, no relays, nothing in there. just one pcb with a bunch of surface mount components, (and one electrolytic capacitor)... one temperature sensor, a couple LEDs.

you can see the board in the resmed S5i Service Manual (I think I got it on apneaboad)

There are 2 pSSR (pseudo solid sate relays) that do the click. You can dump hot glue on them to knock off about 3 db of noise.

It is still very wrong to have them on the board. A good design would knock off 20+ db on that.

and where would they be?

Would any posters in this thread that have helped to reduce the problem i.e. by using glue gun care to elaborate on the procedure?

I would like to try sleeping without earplugs now, but this noise stops me from being able to do it. Unlike the rhythmic airflow of the machine it is a constant irritant. Its pretty amazing Resmed won't acknowledge this as a problem or attempt to fix units people complain about. I've listened to two units here and they both have the issue, probably all H5is do, just some users do not notice the noise.

I have an S8 with low hrs that just recently purchased thru this forum & received & started using 3 days ago. Machine only clicks repeatedly & the screen is green on & off but no message & will not turn totally on was looking forward to use it tonight but only disappointment. Have unplugged & plugged several times w/o luck. Press On & Off button w/o response. Any insight? Please can somebody Help! Thank you

This is an old thread but a persistent problem. I experienced a lot of clicking myself with my ResMed Adapt, finally deciding it was the temperature sensor cycling tho the blower was off. Here's how to get a comprehensive list of all the S9 clicking or unwanted noise posts and there's ton of them BTW. Dont use CPAPtalk's search engine, it is only good for the very primitive stuff:

and so forth. For awhile I used ear plugs, then I just got used to it and my brain seemed to phase out the noise. Now I use PR machines and no problems with them clicking or whatnot.

Man, I hope you get that sorted. Talk to the person who sold it, if you get no response after a week or two, you can take the next draconian step. <do I have to say what it is?> I hate to hear these types of stories. Was the machine well packed on delivery? Did you use PayPal?
