If I did a posting with a headline like that, I'd be called a pig!

I'm not so young anymore. But the thin, female, tired parts haven't changed.

When my doctor found out I has OSA and was on CPAP he said, "you don't look like a typical sleep apnea patient." I am in decent shape but as my sleep doc said - your throat, tongue and palette structure can still contribute to OSA.

I'm curious if anxiety can cause sleep apnea? I also am only a little overweight and started having symptoms maybe from anxiety. I couldn't figure it out and finally klonopin helped

Obstructive; I can't imagine how; but insomnia and all it brings, most certainly!

There is an interesting article about sleap apena and stuttering. Once you get over the title
you will note the researchers have found a link between sleap apena and a loss of some brain
tissue that controles breathing. They concluded that this not just weight is the real problem.
Well I hope that link worked. Now I hapen to stutter and in my case if I lose a lot of weight
not only does my sleep apena get better my stuttering also is a lot less. It's a real short article
and I thought it was refreshing to see a couple of Dr's admiting it's not always cause we are
fat.

I am a 25 year old female, very thin. I have many symptoms that seem to fit sleep apnea - frequent urination during the night, shaking during sleep, waking up gasping for breathe, sleeping for 10+ hours but still waking up feeling unrefreshed, excessive daytime sleepiness, ect. Two relatives (one immediate) also have sleep apnea and there seems to be a heredity link in many cases. I feel like I am much older than I am because I often do not have a lot of energy to do things. Went to the sleep doctor today. The first thing he said to me was that "I do not look like your typical sleep apnea patient". Although he freely admitted that I have a lot of symptoms that fit with sleep apnea, he still suspects that my sleep study will come back negative for sleep apnea just because I am not a middle-aged, overweight man. He suspects I have narcolepsy or hypersomnia even though my symptoms seem to correlate with sleep apnea more. Another doctor I saw before today also said to me that I am not the typical sleep apnea patient and was really surprised when I told him my symptoms.
It very well might not be sleep apnea, but I hate how many doctors automatically assume that you don't have it just because you are not typical, and even if you have many symptoms of sleep apnea. It is very frustrating.

The overnight PSG is the acid test. Measuring necks might be a cheap screening tool, but it's an extremely coarse screen.
Kind of like chicken wire.

AND confirms how little they really know about sleep apnea.

Hey, first time post here. sorry to dig up an old thread

i am a young, thing male with OSA. was diagnosed in 2007 when i was 21. am 30 now. still thin. 6'3" 175 lbs.

i am just wondering if any of the other young, thin OSA people have thought about or been evaluated for connective tissue disorders? i am starting to wonder if that might explain what is going on with me.

Do you have a CTD?
Aren't the symptoms kind of hard to miss?

I am starting to wonder if I might. i know the extent of symptoms varies in people. but i have mild pectus excavatum (never been formally diagnosed but mine is mild when compared to pictures i've seen), sleep apnea, had a deviated septum that was corrected by surgery, a hernia that was corrected by surgery, reflux, nearsightedness, crowded teeth that were corrected by braces, skinny wrists (can do the pinky/thumb thing), skinny fingers, facial features such as a weak jaw line

like others in this thread, any doctor i've ever seen (ER doctor who removed a tick, gastro who I spoke to about reflux, etc. etc. etc.) all express shock that I have sleep apnea, so I started to dig around to find out why. connective tissue disorders popped up as a possibility and I started to realize I have some of the signs.

anyways, i do plan to talk to my GP about it. i just wanted to see what others here have experienced. i guess i am afraid he may be dismissive when i bring this list of things to him.

Talk to your doctor.
Make NO conclusions based on random stuff you find on the Internet.
