Used S9 Autoset II - to buy or not to buy

I'm thinking about getting a used S9. I don't think the warranty is transferable.
What do you think? Dumb move? Good move?
I figure it probably won't fail. If it does, it will likely be only the flow generator or the humidifier, not both. I could buy another used one and still not be into it for more than the price of a new one. But, then, I still wouldn't have a warranty.
There are no absolutely right answers, but I value your opinions.
Thanks!

I don't know...depends on your comfort level. Have you considered cpapauction for a new machine? Email the seller, before bidding, to find out about warranty coverage.
I would buy an S8 used, and did, for a backup. But an S9....there have been some reported problems on the forum, that necessitated returning the machine. Since it is a new design, I'm guessing there are some glitches and/or manufacturing issues to work out. I bought mine from cpap.com, and it has worked fine for 5 months now, but I like knowing I have a warranty, and a back-up machine.

If the price was right and it seems to be working fine, I'd jump on it.

If you can get a good deal and maybe buy with some buyer protection (through paypal/credit card) then i would go for it.

Mimi, for me, whether it's worth the gamble would depend on the price and the seller. I haven't looked lately, but a brand new S9 Autoset + H5i Humidifier + ClimateLine hose were selling for around $700 plus shipping at cpapauction.com a few months ago. In most cases, you may not be covered by warranty, though, since ResMed will only work through authorized dealers.
Regardless of whether you purchase new or used, I would be very cautious about who you purchase from. If buying online, make sure the seller has a good reputation. I haven't read of this with the S9 machines, but apparently there are some used S8's being sold that no longer record data. If you can test the machine in person (blower, humidifier, data recording, hours used), that would be great!
Good luck, and please let us know how you fare. My S8 Elite II worked great, but I can highly recommend the S9 machine!

I've posted about the small issues I've discerned with the
S9, but they are mostly PREFERENCES.
Some of the highlights of suggested improvements for the
S9:
1. The power plug should be pinless and a single jack.
2. The chrome buttons on the right side of the color LED screen should be wider
3. Prefer instant-on to full lower limit pressure, not a ten second slow climb, viz. user or clinician selectable.
4. Adjustable back-light on timer
5. Less shiny chrome
6. Humidifier chamber water level should be visible from the side
7. EPR is not as obvious as it is in the S8, but ResMed has reassured me that it is present in the same degree and effectiveness as the S8 model. (I have some technical graphs to post soon)
However, when comparing the Respironics
System One to this ResMed
S9 model, the ResMed
S9 is the clear choice. The ResScan software needs severe revamping. Nice that the
S9, unlike the S8, has a standard, non-proprietary, memory card.

My only suggestion for S9 design improvement is that the hose should connect on the side or front. I'm sure it was done for aesthetic reasons (to make the machine look sleeker), but having the hose connect in the back means quite a bit of usable hose length is lost. I could use a little more hose length when I use my hose stand. The S8 was great in that regard, as the hose attached at the top/front of the humidifier. Oh well.

Have purchased TWO s8 Autoset II's and TWO S9 Auto's on cpapauctions and no problems. All work well. These things appear to be quite reliable so far. Have bought a ton of masks, but of course one does not worry about warranty with masks and stuff.

Great food for thought. Thank you. TorontoCPA, it sounds as though we're lucky to have you with us. I'm glad you made it through.

Probably drives a V.W., and thinks it's a AUDI ! Jim
The HH Hoses are a weak point, maybe
one from a V.W. will fit.

No. You are not close. I'm on the West coast. How is any type of vehicle relevant ? Does the Audi come with a dashboard CPAP installed ?
