I am brand new to this forum and thought this would be a good topic to begin with. I had a very rushed DME Rep show me how to use my equipment. I was very dissatisfied not only with the Rep, but with my Sleep Doctor. This was well over 3 years ago, and my pressure was set so high (20) that I had to ramp for 30minutes or I could not go to sleep.
A lot changed for me when I changed my Sleep Doctor, had a fabulous Sleep Tech and had my pressure set for my needs (9-11) and is on auto-set. I now ramp for 5 minutes and honestly do not need to do so. I am very comfortable with my pressure, although the next thread I will seek out is on cushoin liners and cushion life.

I turned it on the first time I used the machine, then tried it without. Now I just turn the machine on, make sure there aren't any leaks and go to sleep.
My pressure is 10 and the Rx was for a 20 min ramp, starting at 4. OK without after the first month.

I turned mine off after about a week. Just don't see the need for me.

8cm here, I used it for the first few days and then turned it off.
I like the full blast of air when I turn it on.

I now run my ramp from 7 cm. for 5 minutes.
Usually, I fall asleep within 7-10 minutes after lying down.
Update, 9/26/2015: ramp has been completely gone for over a year.
Now I wonder why turning it off took me so long.

+1 --- by the time I decide where I want the hose that particular evening and get comfortable, the 5 minutes are long gone.

Ramp setting? I don't need no stinkin' ramp setting! ..
Actually, I started so long ago that the machines at the time not only did not have a ramp setting, you had to actually use a manometer to set the pressure correctly. Ever make your own manometer so you can be certain the machine is delivering the correct pressure at an increased elevation. You whipper-snappers have no idea of the fun we used to have with xPAP devices!! ..

Mine was ramping from 4 to 10 in 5 minutes. Within 1 week I felt suffocated at 4 and turned the ramp off. The RT that set it up in my home also left the clinical manual with the brick I used for 7 years. She thought I should have it if I needed it.

It made me too anxious to not know when it was going to ramp up so I tried it for about five seconds before quitting! I understand the theory but in practice I don't like surprises and no way can I fall asleep in 15 minutes anyway. Plus even at the start I did not find the pressure (10cm) too difficult.

Turned ramp off the first night, and my minimum pressure is 13. It's still fine.

Never used it. And, I configured my machines so it could never accidentally be used.

I had turned off my ramp (min. 6) after a couple of months on 8-12. However, since I raised my minimum to 9, I find I can't fall asleep. I don't find it uncomfortable, but I just wasn't falling asleep for an hour or more (RLS complicates these issues). So, I tried adding a ramp starting at 7 for 20 minutes a couple of days ago and now I'm out in a few minutes. My point is: don't be afraid to change the settings if you are having problems after a longish while.
