If I had to give up any part of this, how could I possibly protect myself from losing all of it? The answer had very little to do with protection and everything to do with perspective. The only unavailable choice was whether or not to have Parkinson's. Everything else was up to me. I could concentrate on the loss--rush in with whatever stopgap measures my ego could manufacture. I could rely on my old friend from the nineties, denial. Or I could just get on with my life and see if maybe those holes started filling in themselves. ~ Michael J. Fox

You can’t fly a kite unless you go against the wind and have a weight to keep it from turning a somersault. The same with man. No man will succeed unless he is ready to face and overcome difficulties and is prepared to assume responsibilities.
William J.H. Boetcker
Undertake something that is difficult; it will do you good. Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.
Ronald E. Osborn
Our greatest battles are that with our own minds.
Jameson Frank
The man of character finds an especial attractiveness in difficulty since it is only by coming to grips with difficulty that he can realize his potentialities.
Charles de Gaulle
If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity, it would be this: Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life, and when it comes, hold your head high. Look it squarely in the eye, and say, “I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.

I like to think this is original with me, but maybe not.

Never bring a knife to a gun fight.
To have lots of girlfriends, never set your sights higher than you can reach.
Here, hold my beer and watch this.
I'd rather be a COULD BE if I cannot be an ARE
For a COULD BE is a MAYBE who is reaching for a star
I'd rather be a HAS BEEN than a MIGHT HAVE BEEN by far
For a MIGHT HAVE BEEN has never been
And a HAS was once an ARE.
