saliva! i just caught this thread for the first time, today, and as i was reading the first page i kept wondering whether the problem wasn't the removal rather than an allergy!

Other items to dissolve the glue:
Baby oil (what i'm currently using, works like a charm after a couple of minutes of soaking in)
Makeup remover (what i was previously using)
Milk of magnesia (heard it works from forum members, never tried it myself)

I also poke a hole in the tape in the morning so i can breathe more easily while i wait for the glue to dissolve.

skylark- that's my problem too, do i really want to tape my whole life? what about if i become an invalid, who will put the tape on then?! Most tapers end up getting a ffm as a backup or just switching completely to a ffm (yes, i am generalizing, i do not know the actual numbers!). I am currently rotating my nasal mask+tape and my ffm. This is my 4th ffm i've used (and 6th that I've tried on). Even the one i currently use is not as comfortable as my nasal mask. After four months, I've gone back to using the nasal mask nightly, and find that I'm sleeping better again. The ffm just leaked too much and kept waking me up multiple times a night. But it leaks the least of all that I have tried. Very frustrating! I wish I could find the perfect ffm, but finances prohibit me from trying every single one out there (though I have made it half way through cpap.com's ffm list ).

Anyhoo, you might want to try a three piece tape trick. One horizontally across the mouth, and two vertically over the corners of your mouth.

I have the same problem with saliva loosening the tape - it obviously means that my mouth is opening. I solve that by pursing my lips and taping moderately firmly. It keeps my mouth closed during the night. It also prevents me from mouth breathing through the tape. I use up to four layers of tape to prevent both the saliva and the air leakage.

the best tape I have found bar none is
SUPERBAND SPORTS TAPE..

no glue issues, and it holds the saliva in..

JPO, for my first year of cpap therapy, I had excellent results (both in the AHI numbers being below 1.0-1.5, and feeling pretty great every day) using nasal pillows and taping with blue delicate painter's tape. For some unknown reason, my face suddenly became sensitive; and despite knowing all the "right tricks," started getting a skin reaction to pulling off the tape....slowly...and at the same parallel to face method I'd used for a year. I have attempted to go back to taping with nasal pillows every 4 mos, with no success due to the pulling off of a bit of skin when removing tape. I would give anything to be able to return to nasal pillows and mouth-taping, but it probably will not happen. My face just developed sensitivity.

I tried hand lotion on the tape, and Milk of Magnesia on my face prior to applying the tape.....neither one made a bit of difference in removing the tape painfully slowly and flat against my face. I will try baby oil as noted above, but am a little skeptical at this point. Saliva is a bit of a crap shoot, I think, since you will have to find a balance.

Elena, I thank you so much for your contribution regarding Superband Sports Tape. I have tried it for 2 nights, and so far, have had no residue like I had with the 3M brand medical paper tape (UGH!!)--and no skin reactions so far.

I am one who would continue to mouth-tape until I can no longer be responsible for my own treatment. It just makes so much improvement as compared with my past year of FFM experience with the best leak rate I can expect.

My Honey always smiles when I tape my mouth shut.... might there be a hidden meaning there? It's been the best for me, although it sure looks horrible.
