Re: How many here do not use a humidifier

After reading this thread yesterday, a light went on in my brain, and I tried an experiment last night. I've been using my CPAP for almost two months, and I've found that I don't like the humidity high. So I've been using my machine with the humidity set at 1.5, which seemed comfortable enough in the cooler, drier weather, and I was posting AHIs in the 0.6-2.0 range the first few weeks.

My seasonal allergies have been bothering me terribly the last 2-3 weeks, and I just kept the humidity at that level, assuming a bit of moisture would help. But during that time, I've been seeing AHIs in the 2.5-4.2 range. Which I know are not awful, but I was frustrated as to what I could do other than take allergy medication (which wasn't working) to get back to a comfortable night's sleep with the low AHIs again.

So last night I turned the humidity down to the .5 setting, and this morning my AHI was only 1.5--and I feel like I slept much better! Hmm...I know one night doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it's the most positive reading I've had since allergy season started, so tonight I'm going to try it with the humidifier completely off. Thanks for making me realize that I don't necessarily have to use the humidifier just because it's there.

I have learned so much from this board--tomorrow is my husband's and my first follow-up appointment with our sleep doctor, and he has no clue how much more knowledgeable I've become in two months thanks to you guys!
