Clean it really really well with water and vinegar.

I would up the humidity level as high as you can without rain out. You need moisture to keep it from drying and getting more irritated. It is like having bronchitis.

Hi Fuhrtops,

I had the same problem with my mask the first week. I found that it was due to the mask not fitting well and having it adjusted way to tight to keep a good seal. My bridge of my nose was bruised and had terrible acne as well as the area around my cheeks. I just recently switched masks, now I'm using the Quattro FX. It's much lighter and doesn't need to be too tight.
May I suggest that you return for another fitting? You are probably not wearing a proper mask and need a lighter version. Now I have no bruising or acne and the mask is much more comfortable.

I've also started to break out around my face when the mask sits on my skin but I think its being caused because the mask is too tight so I think Im going to loosen it tonight and see what my faces looks like tomorrow, I also have two red marks on each side of my nose but it doesnt bother me that much.

It may be contact dermatitis.
Try unscented baby wipes, used as often as possible --before and after sleep; and whenever you happen to wake.
A mask liner is very effective. You can cut one out of a paper towel (like Viva), or a dried baby wipe.

My daughter gets really bad sores inside her left nostril and on the outside of the left side of her nose when she uses the nasal pillows. She got a really bad sore at the top of her nose that has not healed since last year in August!! I feel we need to see a wound specialist. Our dermatologist thinks that the Wisp mask that we have been using is pressing on the sore all night and not allowing it to heal. We have tried covering the sore with a bandaid. ..then with more padding using a folded up piece of gauze. Whatever we tried, the sore seems to be aggravated each time she used the Wisp mask. We eventually decided to give her a break for several weeks from the CPAP, feeling that the only true way this is going to heal is to give her a break from the device. We got it to the point where, through keeping it moist with Aquaphor (advice from dermatologist) that the sore finally started to heal. It is up at the top of her nose. The area became flesh-colored again. We put the Wisp mask on her for one night and bam! the redness came back on the area of the sore and we are back to square one again. We are at the point that we feel we should consult with a wound specialist. Anyone ever have this happen to you?

When I developed a sore on my nose, I used a band aid on it at night until it finally healed. I then started using a piece of moleskin on my nose at night to keep the mask from rubbing it. I have a very narrow bridge and I had to pull the masks rather snug in order to get them so seal. This caused the sore on my nose. Have you tried a mask liner? If the new Resmed N20 masks are like the F20 is, the seal is very soft and pliable, I have never tried it, but I have used the F20 and found it to be very soft and pliable.

I used a Band Aid with my gel full face mask.
Worked like a charm.
Then I forgot to remove the Band Aid before dressing for work.

This time, BlackSpinner seem to agree with about vinegar.

Soak the piece that touches your face in 50% vinegar solution for at least two hours before first (or next) use.

I know that this has been criticized by many, but it works for me!
