Sheltered life. Back in college one of the guys on our floor had a sandwich press (not sure what its called, it would "seal" the two pieces of bread together to make a pocket sandwich). Our favorite recipe was white bread, spam, French's yellow mustard and gub'ment cheese.

It is not bad after a day of hiking when fried over an open campfire with onions, potatoes and eggs.
as Marlene Dietrich
sings in "Black Market"
You like my first edition?
It’s yours, that’s how I am.
A simple definition
You take art, I take spam.
To you for your “K” ration: my passion and maybe
An inkling, a twinkling or real sympathy
I’m selling out - take all I’ve got!
Ambitions! Convictions! The works!
Why not? Enjoy my goods, for boy my goods
Are hot!

Off the top of my head -
The tin excites my boyhood desires
The self-opener tempts brazenly
Here we go again. SPAM !
BlackSpinner's recipe is the only truly edible one.
Loved the Spam Haiku site
I used to buy k-rations on the Saigon black market. I was living on Vietnamese food, and suffering from severe malnutrition, (you could see my ribs), so the k-rations saved me.
cheers

SPAM..........................................
Gross, yuck, blah, ick, ack.
My daughter eats it on sandwiches, she grates it into a bowl, adds onion & mayo.
Should I add, my daughter has no taste, yuck.....gross...shudder...I'm heading for the bathroom....ack.
Cheers
Nan

The most important ingredients there is the full day of exhausting hiking or paddling and an open fire. Even spam with Kraft dinner tastes superb after a few days of paddling.

Spam, the Other Road Kill Meat. I 1966 Viet Nam, that's all we had to eat, three meals of it a day. That wasn't the worse that we got, for a month everything we had to eat was freeze dried, and and nuked with radiation. These foods made "K" Rations look good.
Now I eat "Treet", but I haven't skinned one of those "Spam" Critters since 1966, never will. I also newer ate Rice after 1966. Jim
