What helps me keep my mask from leaking and in place is making a kind of head band out of "Knee-High" panty hose - 3pr/$1 at the dollar store. In fact, last time I went they were on clearance 50% Off because they don't move.

Just find a key spot on your mask that needs support wrap the nylon around and tie a knot. Nylon has the advantage of being soft but strong, stretches but not too far. I don't leave home without "My Knee-highs".

Something else that may help some are the scrunchies women wear in their hair. But these are harder to find the right size and tension needed for your size head. I tried a bunch on right in the aisle. Usu. each store has different brand/styles.

That's odd that I've never seen that mask before, as it's apparently not new. Do you have good luck with it, Muffy? Better than the Comfort Gel?

Couldn't tell ya, I'm a RM Ultra Mirage FFM and old Healthdyne M Nasal muffin myself, although the most I've ever worn anything was about 30 minutes while screwin' around with that AdaptSV proximal pressure line back when:

My 2 cents worth...My EPAP is set at 14 cmH2O.My min IPAP setting is 15 cmH2O.My max IPAP is set to 30 cmH2O.I know these pressures are high but I find the Activa LT my best mask yet.The last 2 nights I have tryed the EasyLife but have had leaks all night long.

I have Complex Apnea but since starting my therapy I feel a whole world better!!

Here's the Pad A Cheek Anti-Leak Strap that brain_cloud mentioned: http://padacheek.com/PAC_AntiLeak_Strap.html. It was specially designed for the Quattro and Ultra Mirage full face masks. It's had some very positive reviews from forum members, and I think it'd be worth a try with your high pressures!

As a provider I have seen pressures that high, particularly on patients with centrals. I've seen higher pressures as well. Usually the higher pressure is first, however, I bet you have your numbers flipped. Unless you are using an auto bilevel pressure then the Rx would read low pressure-high pressure. I would first confirm your Rx and that it is set correctly. I would check to see if you are on an auto pressure or straight bilevel pressures or not and if your provider can do a download to see how you are doing. Get a copy of that report and go over it with your physician.

I've seen also seen patients w/ CSA Rx'ed an Auto SV unit or a Bilevel with a back-up rate (also called Bilevel S/T).

Thank you to those who responded, even to the nonsense responses, the responses to others posts, and the marvelling at my high and/or backwards pressure. I assure you that my machine displays "17-21" and I was told that is my Rx. I do have an auto bipap machine (vpap). I tried 5 masks, including all of the most expensive, figuring that they would be the best and most up to date. Nothing works better than the Quattro. The others make me feel like I'm suffocating or they leak too. I took the advice of many who said the quattro is the best and I also took the advice of getting a small. It works better, but I have come up with MY OWN SOLUTION> I sleep on my belly with the straps very tight and mashing the mask into the pillow. I also keep a hand on the mask for easy adjustments if the noise wakes me. This seems to enable me to use the medium mask, which is slightly more comfy. The small mask rests on my eyebrows. I do wake up with indentaions, but with pressure this high, no mask worked better. I do have central and obstructive. I will verify with my doctor, or rather his physicians assistant (he doesn't actually speak with patients), that my pressures are right and I will tell him that I am still waking up with chest pain after a month. That's the worst part. After 6 hours, the pain is unbearable and I have to get up. It goes away quickly but I would like to sleep more. I told the technician who told me to lose weight and that there was nothing else he could do. He said that you can take upto 60 cms of pressure. I think I would explode at that pressure. Doctors in the past have told me that I am extremely sensitive, aka a pain in the behind, so I am reluctant to complain. Nor do I think I could handle another sleep study. It's much harder to get to sleep now and I didn't really enjoy the study. Luckily I was so sleep deprived that I almost instantly fell asleep. Not so now. Thanks again for all your help. And to those wimps out their with pressures under 15, just suck it up. I could wear 10 all day and not complain.

Be sure that you are not blocking the exhaust ports on the mask when you mash the mask into the pillow.

I don't spend much time on this forum - but your post caught my eye.

Hang in there - 21/17 is tough going. It really grates my tenders when people bitch about their TERRIBLE experiences on anything <12.

Firstly QUATRO is GARBAGE !!! They prescribe it to you because you are on bi-level - it's almost mandatory. IT IS UNPLAYABLE. Throw it away as soon as you make a new plan. ( reading your subsequent post - you are correct - it is the best of a really bad lot - but it's still garbage )

I tried MANY masks. It cost me a fortune - forget about anything that looks cool. Won't work. Activa/Swift - out of play! If the review say " floats " or " comfort " or " hardly notice " .. stay WELL CLEAR.

I finally settled on the Resmed SoftGel Nasal with 3M(t) painters tape - but still looking for a FF. ( I like to mouth breathe ? and I drool alot especially when dreaming about pizza - painters tape doesn't like that - the drooling - not the pizza ( everybody loves pizza) !! )

AHI in Dec 2009 : 169/hr
AHI today : ~2.5/hr ( 6 month avg ) - very often <1/hr.
AI=0 ( 6 month avg )

A FF is the best solution ( did I mention I like to mouth breathe!!! ) but I just couldn't find anything except the Resmed FF Mirage Ultra that could hold a seal @ 21 - unfortunately it is constructed by cheap ass midgets with an injection molding factory designed by Greenpeace. I might still end up buying a couple and taking return insurance on them or trying the warranty process. dunno ..

If you want to play - bellow setting are my best experience so far - gives a nice smooth transition and is very responsive " dampens " the BiPAP experience a lot. This is very subjective - so your mileage may vary - obviously you would change the 20 to a 21 and the 16 to a 17.
