I have never bought that kind of filters because of the price. The price I posted is from cpap.com. Shipping is $17 to Canada ($7 to USA) and filters are $13.99 (6 filters), it makes a total of $31 for 6 filters = $5/filter. I don't understand why the shipping is so high to Canada.

I tried the link you gave me but I'm not able to see the shipping rate for International or Canada, I think they provably don't ship outside USA. The First Class Mail is $3.61, the Priority is $13.45, I would be more than happy with First Class but they surely don't ship to me . I think I will try the N95 solution if need arrives

IMHO I think there is no problem if I make my ultra fine filters from N95 masks, that will solve my problem with shipping and high price of filters.

elena88 I read the foam filter from Respironics is for pollen, the withe one is for thin particles and bacteria/viruses. For sure you can find the same for your S9, but I thought you had a System One

She had a PR1 at first, she traded it after about a month for a S9 because she was having trouble with the pressure pulses.

She stated somewhere else that she would go back to the PR1 if she could but she is fairly content with the S9.


Here is a little tip for PR1 users: If you buy the micro filters (non-foam white ones https://www.cpap.com/productpage/dispos ... mstar.html ) that are designed for the old Resperonics tank machines, you can cut the filters into 3 pieces that pretty much fit perfectly in your PR1. That turns your $14 six pack into a 18 pack. Making each filter 78 cents instead of $2.30 ea.

I think you made a mistake with the filter you posted, but the idea is good. I had think about that but I was not sure if the thickness and the way the material of those filters is in the middle allow you to cut it there. I mean are you able to install it afterward.

The height of the tank filter is 1 9/16 , the System One high is 1 5/16; the wide is 3 5/8 and the system one 1 3/4. Yes we can cut it on 2 but not on 3, it makes a good price for US people but me I'm still to pay $17 for shipping & handling. I can make maybe 4 filters or more from one N95 mask, I haven't check it up.

Thanks for the idea. I saw another filters for Respironics which have bigger surface maybe it was one of those you was suggesting.

All I know is when my old tank (model before the M series) died and I got the PR1 I had some of the ultra fine filters (UF) left over from my tank machine. I took the foam pollen filter out of my PR1 and placed it on top of one of the UF filters from my old remstar tank machine. I noticed that the foam filter was pretty much exactly 1/3rd the size of the ultrafine filter. I left the foam filter on top of the UF one and used scissors to cut a piece exactly the same size and was able to get three pieces out of it that were all the same size of the pollen filter.

My DME claims that there is no official ultra fine filter for the PR1 and that it doesn't need it. So I've just been using this cut to size method ever since.

Also, if you look inside the PR1 air intake area, even though the filter area is a big rectangle, the actual air intake hole is only a round circle in the middle, so even if the UF filter was slightly the wrong size (which I don't believe they are) you are probably getting some pretty decent filtration out of it anyway just based on the air intake area any way.

The N95/N99 are the mask you saw the people wear in the time of the H1N1 (avian flu). You need to be a bit creative to cut your filters but as says WillSucceed it's possible to do. Remember to keep the side of the exterior of the mask facing the exterior, there is a direction the air need to pass to do it's job.

I just check the N95 mask

The price is about $30 per 20 + shipment cost
the mask form is so that it is not easy to cut.

If there is N95 in sheet form this is ideal otherwise where are the benefits

I'll cut mine and I let you know where the benefits are. I have no idea if N95 sheets exist (maybe yes in another shape of filter), all I know is at the hardware or the pharmacies you can buy N95s and you can cut several filters from one mask. If you live in USA it's provably unnecessary for you to get in all this trouble.

I stated in my first post the shipping to me in Canada was $17 and 6 masks $14, that's way I threw out the idea of N95s to make filters. Here I pay $3.50 for one mask (or less if I check more) and I can make I'm sure more than 4 filters. All the solutions are not good for everyone...

Ahhhh. I get it know.
My brother worked in a hospital and had brought a some home at one point. I'll ask him if they're the same. Quite a few people traipsed around with the paper masks on when we had the SARS scare also. I believe they were also surgical masks.
