Rescan for Dummies???

I used my S9 elite for the first time last night and loved it. I got a copy of Rescan 3.10 and for the first time I'm able to see some data. However, I have no clue what I am looking at. Is there a thread or link that someone can point me to that has detailed explanations of what these graphs and numbers mean?

My AHI for last night was 0.6 and I understand enough to know that is really good. However, that's about the only thing I understand.

Ha! You think ResScan is hard to grasp. Try a Respironics and EncorePro!!! ResScan is a breeze to grasp in comparison!!!

I have no idea what data the S9 Elite is capable of reporting. My experience has been w/the S8 Elite. But I am using ResScan 3.10 and the Resmed VPAP Auto (more an S8 II than an S8 - certainly not an S9).

Why not post one page image at a time here and we'll explain them to you?

This reading will give you some background so that you will be able to ask other questions:
Sounds like you are pretty happy with your results... and you should be.

Angie, I believe that you'll find this website, created by forum member Dave21, to be very helpful in learning how to understand the ResScan graphs: http://www.osahelp.com/. There's lots of other good information regarding sleep apnea there too.

Thanks for the link. The definitions at the end helped me understand some of it.

Here are some of my questions...

On the AHI chart what does the number on the vertical column represent? Is it seconds?
Between 3 and 4 am I'm seeing 3 events in that graph. Two of them are obstructive and are labeled 10.0 and one central labeled 12.0. Is that how many seconds the event lasted???? Other then one hypoapnea around 5am those are the only events I had all night.

During the time I had those apneas I also notice that my leak index looks weird. I'm not sure what constitutes a bad lead though???? At the same time I also see some pretty steady blips on the snore index so I'm assuming I was mouth breathing during that hour which explains why I woke up about 4:30am bone dry.

Under statistics it says Leak: 95% 8.4 max 9.6. Is that bad???

I had a few blips on the leak chart throughout the night but nothing major with the exception of the 3-4am mentioned above. It looks like I was leaking varying amounts nonstop during that hour.

If you need to see the chart to help explain this I will try to figure out how to post it. I know how to do a screen capture, but not sure I know how to add it to a post.

thanks so much for your help.

On the AHI chart what does the number on the vertical column represent? Number of respiratory events per hour.
Between 3 and 4 am I'm seeing 3 events in that graph. Two of them are obstructive and are labeled 10.0 and one central labeled 12.0. Is that how many seconds the event lasted???? Yes it is the length in seconds.

During the time I had those apneas I also notice that my leak index looks weird. I'm not sure what constitutes a bad leak though???? It's not an index but rather a display of the flow rate. The Resscan shows zero leak when the amount of air flowing approximates the built in leak of the mask you have selected on the set up menu (pillows, nasal, full face etc.) each type of mask has a built in leak. For leak the lower the better. What I like to see is a fairly steady line less than 10 lpm with very few peaks...for me personally. Peaks can be an indication of mouth breathing or other type of leaks but expect the leak to go up somewhat as your pressure goes up. The Rescan shows a line at 24 lpm as a kind of limit. That seems like a lot to me but I do occasionally have a peak there. It is usually because I reseated my mask.

At the same time I also see some pretty steady blips on the snore index so I'm assuming I was mouth breathing during that hour which explains why I woke up about 4:30am bone dry. Yes dry mouth can be an indication of mouth breathing if your leak rate went though the roof at the same time, Did your machine increase the pressure for the snores? If not your may need a little more pressure.

Under statistics it says Leak: 95% 8.4 max 9.6. Is that bad??? No those are good numbers.

I had a few blips on the leak chart throughout the night but nothing major with the exception of the 3-4am mentioned above. It looks like I was leaking varying amounts nonstop during that hour. That could be mouth breathing if you woke up with a very mouth or a mask leak maybe.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you for explaining that. That's a big help.
