I purchased a medium-sized camera bag for my gear. it's a day pack style bag -- Lowe Pro Fastpack 250 -- and also has a slot for my laptop.
(ps- a few TSA guards have admired it... and I've had no problem using it as an extra carry on item both in the US and abroad.)
