That is fine water drops picked up by the wind off the wave tops, not evaporated water. I don't see many waves crashing in my humidifier.
I was kind of wondering if I should just go down to the ocean and bring water home for my humidifier. However, it won't be salt I expect to smell but more like rotten decaying sea-life. I already have the "ocean" smell in the air when it is not filtered and this would give me ocean smell 24/7.
I was also wondering if those who don't use distilled water or want to add salt to their tank were trying to grow these.

Yes, it's prescription, and I got it when I had a cold, to help relieve the congestion.
I am not sure how that particular steroid relates to the nasal steroid sprays people are given like flonase. I have been given what you have before for big allergy attacks / colds. Again ask your doctor.

There's starting to be some research being published that says the use of as needed steroid nasal sprays may bring symptom relief. The one that I remember seemed to be focusing on mometasone (Nasonex).

I have that and I use it only "as needed" Mostly in August. I really don't why I need to use it when there is no allergens around. Besides if I use it at night I get rotten sleep and if I use it during the day my hands get all shaky. So I really don't want to use it when I don't need it to survive.

interesting - I haven't taken any of that for probably close to 10 years - early 2000 I think was when I was given something on that order so I haven't kept up on it but yes if there isn't any allergens around or inflammation to deal with then why bother taking it - I was able to dump my advair a few years back when I was told my lungs were clear (and I hadn't taken the advair for a few months prior) - steroids can induce cataracts even if not used in the eye according to the eye doc I had back in IL (and yes I have steroid induced cataracts from large doses for pulmonary failure episode)

I have been adding a few tablespoons full of Hydrogen peroxide to my humidifier for about a year now. I figured if my Mom put it on my skinned knees as a kid, plus it has no odor (unlike chlorine or alcohol), it might work. It totally eliminates mustiness from ever developing in my humidifier. And peroxide is cheap.
Before you panic, think about the chemistry. Hydrogen Peroxide is H2O2, which is a water molecule with an extra Oxygen atom. When it Hydrogen Peroxide reacts with any biologic critters in the water, It will break down into a water molecule, and perhaps some O2 atoms will get released.

Please note:

Using it to clean and then rinsing it out completely is one thing. But if you mean using it as an additive to the humidifier water, that is another. Maybe a few tablespoons to a tank full of water would be enough of a diluted solution not to do any damage, but it is still NOT something I would do, personally, in view of the statement above.

No.
It merely gives a workable result, as do quite a few other approaches.

My brother-in-law, who I got a CPAP unit for about a year ago, was told by his girlfriend's father (who uses CPAP) that he ought to put a cough drop in his tank when he is congested. I advised him he should not put anything in his humidifier tank but pure distilled water (with the tap exception if he was out of town or something). One thing I HAVE done when congested that works well is to put a tiny dab of Vick's VapoRub on my moustache area near the nostrils, an area where the cushion of my Quattro won't touch anyway. It tends to "unclog the pipes."
