Well, I have been using the APAP for one month. I am surprised to find that my mouth breathing has stopped. When I open my mouth with the mask on it creates a loud, tornado like effect in my mouth. It is not a pleasant sensation and it has the wonderful side effect of me gladly keeping my mouth closed. I was so worried I would need tape. I have taken the H/H off for now. I just found it was too much trouble, washing and filling. I will see how I do without it, but so far so good (though I know I will need it when I have colds/sinus). I don't feel a whole lot better physically but my blood pressure is down where it should be and my cardiologist is thrilled. Just wanted to update everyone.

Barbyann, that it absolutely wonderful.
And a great example of what it means to be a knowledgeable, proactive patient in the 21st century.
And for those who weren't here back then, here's Barbyann's first post on this board: Cardiac Damage

You are right, one must be proactive. I waited too long to take control. Every Cardio visit some new problem would arise.....I am now being so proactive that I am having my teenage son checked for trouble. He, like my deceased Dad and myself, has a receding chin with a thick neck and a narrow nasal/throat passages. I think he will benefit from my actions also. Everyone remember, it wasn't my MD whom ordered the sleep study. I asked him at my last appointment why he didn't consider this himself. His answer was "Most people won't keep the mask on, they just can't tolerate it". I think the Docs get sick of non-compliant patients. They should at least offer the information/opportunity and let the patient decide.

I had been to 2 pulmanologist, a urologist and in enterologist and I was the one that suggested to my own GP that I take the overnite tests.barbyann wrote:You are right, one must be proactive.
