Might investigate taking a Beta Glucans supplement...pills not suppositories . Doc recommended once when we could knock out an infection with antibiotics, too a while but it worked.

Well, thanks to your remarks and the poll I did indeed use my APAP/CPAP last night and cranked the heated humidifier up as high as I could stand it comfortably. Slept fairly well!! Still awoke with sore throat but it is almost gone right at the moment; just back from the MD and he took a throat swab because of a large white patch on by Ferengial Arch next to my tonsils. The whole big white spot came off when he wiped it for culture! "What the heck was that" he mutters. "Well, funny you should ask.... I dreamed I was eating marshmallows last night and when I woke up the tissue dispenser was empty". Gave him a good laugh. Have a hunch it might have been toothpaste that he's sending off for a culture and THAT should be a giggle when it comes back too.

Bottom line is that the humidified heated air gave me a better night of sleep than otherwise not using the APAP. Being an MD he did suggest disinfecting/cleaning daily until I was well again to prevent prolonging whatever it is that I have, but otherwise suggested it was a good thing to be breathing warm moist air.

I am off to crawl back into bed and watch some TV and sleep. Will fill up the humidifier.

I use it every night no matter how I am feeling. The first night, in almost four years of CPAP/APAP use, that I haven't masked up was 3 weeks ago when I had to be taken to the hospital at 2AM when I went into atrial fib while I had some nasty stomach virus. Vomiting into a mask was not looking that appealing anyways so I never put it on. Though on the plus side, the hospital got me a CPAP (no just a CPAP, no frilly things like a humidifier or exhale relief) and mask to use when I was admitted. I used it until my wife brought my APAP and mask.

I always use my CPAP when I sleep -- period. I use a netti pot and maybe a bit of Afrin to open my nose if necessary.

I have used CPAP or Auto CPAP every single night without exception for 17 years. I nearly always breath better through my nose with CPAP than without when I have a cold. I remember thinking in the beginning that I wouldn't able to use CPAP when I came down with a bad cold, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that generally isn't a problem. Now I look forward to putting my mask on if my nose is plugged, because I know from experience that it usually clears rather quickly. The problem will come next morning when I take the mask off and go back to having a plugged-up nose.
