This is how the need for technical writers was created...misleading explanations that lead to confusion, ambiguity (unless intentionally written to be so, taken a class in that ), and frustration. Many highly technical professionals have such a huge base of expertise that what they think is a clear simple communication reads/sounds like incomprehensible jargon or meaningless complexity to the audience, so companies often turn writing over to the marketing types who are even less able to communicate technical information accurately. There is a difference in conceptual understanding of technical material between technical writers and technical experts, the former begin with details integrating them into a whole while the latter begin from a problem (whole) and break it down into constituant parts to be solved...the explanations of the latter reflects this approach regardless of the audience. Technical writers, at least the good ones, write to the needs of the targeted audience.
