.
I'm wondering if the smaller diameter hose would direct the air into the nares more forcefully than the larger diameter hose we are used to using.
My pressure is 14, and after a year on the Headrest the inside lining of my nares are uncomfortably sensitive to air passing through. I do have a heated hose & a CPAP humidifier that I've tried on several settings. I also coat my nares with a thin film of Ayer Gel but that doesn't eliminate the discomfort. Even when I inhale deeply during the day, the air is uncomfortable. I've been using the Zest "over the nose" nasal mask for the past few nights and have seen improvement.
I'd like to try the Swift FX (hated the LT for Her) , but I'm concerned about the smaller diameter hose magnifying my problem.
Has anyone using the Swift FX noticed a difference in the air flow being more forceful, or different in any way?
Thanks,
Joy

JoyD., I thought I read somewhere on here that someone using the Swift FX actually said the air coming out was
more distributed.

I asked this question on another Swift FX thread, but have received no answer. Can anyone who's used the Swift FX tell me if it sits on the upper lip at all? I can't tell from the photos and video.

Yes it does sit on the upper lip, but the pillows are so soft that you hardly notice it. In fact the base of the pillows is so soft that the weight of the hose can cause it to deform. I have to clip the hose to my pjs to prevent leaks. Anyone find that the silicone strap has to be adjusted very tight to prevent the pillows from leaking. I use a small for the Opus. I wonder if I need extra small for the swift fx.

I've been using the Swift FX regularly for the last few days, and for the past two nights I've finally been able to sleep through the night. The Swift FX primarily pulls up against the nose, but there is a little pressure upon the upper lift. Seems quite minimal to me. The Headrest Nasal Pillows mask would put zero pressure on your upper lip, but in my experience it's a LOT louder than the Swift FX, and has a bulkier positioning system. The Swift FX is certainly nothing like the Liberty or Hybrid masks that put a lot of pressure on your upper lip (I've owned them both).

Thanks so much for the responses to my question!

The Headrest nasal pillows mask is actually the
only nasal/nasal pillows mask that I've tried that doesn't put too much pressure on my upper lip. (I have an overbite, and my teeth there are a concern.) I think I've tried
just about every ResMed/Respironics mask (which are the only brands my local DME stocks)! The Activa LT would be the perfect mask for me, except that it puts too much pressure on my upper lip, even with the bottom straps very loose. I've not had any luck with the full face masks either--tried a number of them, in various sizes. They pull my lower jaw too far back because I have to wear the bottom straps so tight to prevent leaks, which causes large clusters of apneas when I'm on my back.
I'm tired of spending money on masks that don't work out! And I know I'm not alone in my frustration. I think what I'll do is wait a few months, until my insurance will cover another mask, and try on the Swift FX and EasyLife nasal at my local DME. They don't sell the AEIOMed Headrest, so if I want to continue with that one over time, I'd have to pay for it out of pocket. So my search for a suitable ResMed/Respironics mask continues....
Again, thanks for your help. I realize that mask fit and preference is a
very individual thing, but if anyone does have a suggestion for a nasal pillows mask that doesn't put any pressure on the upper lip, I'm all ears--ResMed or Respironics preferred, since those are covered 80% by my insurance.

Bob3000, what size pillow size did you use for the liberty mask and which size are you using for the swift fx? I used small for both the liberty and the Opus masks. I use a small for the swift fx but am struggling with leaks. Either I need an extra small or I don't have it tightened enough.
Anyone else who can tell me how the pillow sizing of the swift fx compares to other masks?

Anyone that bought the FX---did it come with the SOFT WRAPS for your cheeks or was that an extra purchase?

Did you look at the fitting video for the Swift FX? They had some very specific suggestions as to placement of the straps for best fit. And it showed a little about proper pillow sizing too.

Hi DreamOn,
Yes I did look at the video but maybe I need to again. But I still wonder if the leaks I am getting are related to pillow size. This is what happened with my Opus mask when I used the medium size. I had to switch to the small..
Oh well, time to look at that video again

Yes, the FX comes with the strap protectors though they are not fleece but a synthetic gray material.
yes, it can rest against the area under the nose. But I find that to be less than with the LT. And yes, I did have to tighten the silicone strap a bit more than I had expected to.
I had to go down a pillow size to a small for the best fit. The medium seemed to cause just a bit of leaking. In general, very little leaking with this mask so far. Anyone want to trade for the L and M size pillow for smalls ? I am hoping that they are selling this with decent pillows unlike the LT. I have a feeling the Breeze mod that people have been using could be just as effective here though especially if you liked a stiffer pillow. I am not getting out the exacto knife to test that.
It is super light and darn quiet. I like the air being directed down instead of straight in front of you. I also like the super flexy short hose. Yes, I think you could route it over your head but you would need to leave enough slack to not tug on the pillow and cause leaking from the lower edge. I do not notice a difference in flow due to the smaller hose as someone asked. Most of the joints seem to be of the same construction except for the one that joins the nasal pillow to the hose. I am hoping that seals well, it appears to do so. I did notice that the leak rate is a bit higher for the FX compared to the LT at the same pressure I use, which is 10.
I'm a side sleeper and found that mask much more stable for that kind of sleeping with fewer dislodging of the pillows. I almost always get more leaks in the morning in the hour or so before I get up. That did not happen. The hose did not cause me problems in turning over at night. The super flexy hose might be interesting to have in a 6 foot version though it would be challengin in terms of a hose cover since it contracts a bit.
All in all, I think it's an improvement on the LT. I hope so, since I think I read that they are discontinuing the LT.

I did find the video on the Resmed site and not on the cpap.com site. I did find it though and it is quite helpful.
Thanks.
