Well, I'm not very good at physics, but... I believe there can be another reason (more common one, imho) for rainout in the tubing than just over-saturation.

Rainout -- water droplets forming inside the tubing -- is more often (imho) a result of the heated humidified air cooling because the heated humidified air can rapidly lose its warmth (and the moisture it is carrying) as it contacts the inner walls of a cold plastic hose. The air that is warm as it leaves the heated humidifier cools during the long trip, and the water it's carrying condenses -- becomes water drops inside the tube.

Keeping the hose warm (hose cover, or hose under bed covers, or heated hose) are some solutions to deal with "rainout." At any rate, rainout isn't what the original problem was about. It was about running out of water in the water chamber, during an 8 hour sleep session.

I respect yours too, and usually agree with you. It's ok that we happen to differ on this...

I think you have an excellent handle on those Physics Laura!!!!
I started building my shelves today so I can finally install my HC150 (I've only had it for over a year)....

My M-Series Humidifier is set at 1 or 2 and I have to refill it each night as it uses more than 50% at those settings. It's pretty consistent whether the ambient humidity is 10% or 80%, and during the winter it's very very low as we heat with wood. Keep a pot on the stove with water in it to maintain some semblance of humidity.....but it's still pretty dry!!

I kinda read the comments the same way Ozij, so you ain't the only one!!!

cheers

I did not argue that he was incorrect, I plainly stated that it would be cheaper to correct the problem with a room humidifier which costs approx 35.00 that with a new humidifier which costs 149.99 at cpap.com. I'm not perfect, I do put my foot in my mouth from time to time, but if you read the entire thread you'll see I was just trying to suggest a cheaper option for the man/woman. I have no love affair with respironics, I use respironics and resmed equipment equally, Its just that this person had a M series.

Everything rested gal said. I have a Fisher too. One of the best things I ever bought! PERFECT humidity on demand. A room humidifier just won't hack it...I tried. I live a mile up in Prescott Arizona. You want to talk about dry? Last night it was 19% humidity in the house. We run a Swiss Air BIG room humidifier for my wife and I...add the HC150 for me. Juuuuust right.

Fisher-Paykel must have made a killing off of the 150 units. I have one too!!! They are excellent units. I think most bought them before they started intergrating humidifiers into machines.
