Yes - It is my understanding that Mac users must run a virtual environment like Boot Camp, Parallels, or VMware in which to install Windows and then install the Resperonics Encore software. It may be easier to use a work/friends windows machine.

But it's Windows driven.
So I have to have something on my computer that will run Windows based software.

Right?

On Intel based Macintoshes you can use Bootcamp (free from Apple), VM Ware or Parallels (both about $80 through various discounts and such). You will need a copy of Windows (of some sort) Getting a license is normally just looking at an older machine that someone is getting rid of and writing down the product key to use during a Windows install. It isn't that hard to get it up and running.
Getting the Smart Card reader is just a matter of ordering it from an Internet website, the price runs from $45 to $150, after research on here I found that for the Respironics M Series I needed the "Infineer Mako DT3500 Card Reader". Then you need the software, there are two versions that are useful for people with the Smart Card. One is the Encore Viewer, the other Encore Pro (this is no longer sold to the users of the xPAP machines only doctors or DMEs - some people have successfully bought it from those sources, and some have gotten it by yet other means).

It isn't really too hard to get it all working on a Mac, you just need to know how to do a couple of things.

I have it all working very well and am using the software to read 3 people's smart card.

Thank you.

I think I've got a handle on what I'm going to have to do.
I do have Boot Camp on my computer.

Thank you for your help.

The necessary card reader is:

Mako Technologies "Infineer" card reader: model DT3500

This is the least expensive place I've seen lately to get the correct card reader:
About $36 here:

Here's another store that carries that card reader for about $50:

For what it's worth, I'd say using the software with Boot Camp is your best bet. Not sure about others' success around here, but I was unable to get my card reader working on my Mac with Windows XP or Windows Vista in a VirtualBox installation. (VMWare or Parallels may work better - VirtualBox is a free VM application from virtualbox.org)

But, I was able to get things working with Windows 7 Professional under Boot Camp with this advice:
