Hey, easy now. Large women are beautiful things.
Uncle Bob,
WW is a great life style. It works for anyone who follows their plan. I have a lot of trouble with it. Burger and fries addict that I am. But when I do it right it works.
As for exercise, I would like to recommend Leslie Sansone's walking videos for anyone who doesn't want to go to a gym or walk outside. I have a small TV and VCR in my office here at work (it's a pretty large room) and we have a group of ladies that come down on their lunch break to walk. It's marching in place, side steps, kicks and leg lifts. You can get a two mile walk in 30 minutes. We have been doing this for over a year and a half. Most feel that the walking is very beneficial and the support from everyone helps keep us in line. I really think that these videos are great.
Lots of luck to you and you will be surprised how the other women at WW help you with your goal. I think going to the meetings is a plus.

Okay, I know tomorrow is only Thursday, but I have to post this before anything changes and since I was so downhearted last Friday due to gain, not loss. I have officially lost this week 7 1/2 lbs. Yes, I swear it's true. I lost three and a half one night to the next morning - and after taking one water pill yesterday, got on the scale this morning and lost another four lbs.
Yes, I do realize that means this was never actual weight gain, but rather heavy water retention. But am lower now than I was before the weight increase and my new scale is starting to become my friend because my weight is looking not so bad even on that.
Just wanted to share some GOOD news finally on this thread as it hasn't happened for me since this thread was started. Hope by Friday to have even lost more, but I won't be upset if it just stays where it is. Who ever thought water could be so good for you, yet be so cruel at the same time...

Lori, I was so very glad to read your post. Congratulations!!! I can tell how much better you are feeling from the tone of your message.
That water weight can be a bear!
Good luck.

Nan,
Who knew??? Now if only the blood pressure would respond to the water pill the same way the lbs. are, I'd be thrilled. AND if this cold would finally go away!!!!!
Here's to everyone's successful posts on Friday. Thanks for your support.

Lori, have you taken your BP yet? Do you have a home monitor? I'll just bet that you will be pleasantly surprised with lower readings. Boy, what a great combo that'l be, lower weight and lower BP! and a happy Lori....

Nan,
So far, it hasn't gone down MUCH, but a little. But I still have this horrible congestion from the cold and don't feel great, so maybe it's from infection still in the body. It's almost a week now!
But the better news is that from last night to today, I lost another 1 1/2 lbs., so it's 9 lbs. total of water weight! Is that unbelievable? Finally, too, some progress from my plateau when I said I had my last nine pounds to go intially. But that was on my old scale. I had to go by a new one that was accurate . Now, according to this one, I want to lose another 16. Even with the 9 lbs. gone. But this is identical to my doctor's scale, so it's higher than my old lovable one and correct...

Lori, are you taking an oral decongestant? That can impact on your blood pressure.....or, as you say, just the cold/infection etc. can also impact.
CPAP has made a definite change in my BP....cut out about one/half of medication as it was actually going too low!
Even though they say there is no such thing as too low, when you are feeling dizzy and as though you are going to pass out, it is too low , at least for me. ...another one of my run on sentences! My BP got down to 94/48!
So glad you lost even more ....some of that could also be a true weight loss and not all water loss....you may be able to check by how your clothes are fitting.
I have totally lost control of eating this week....not even going to weigh in, going to try and do better next week!

I've been a baaaaad boy this week as far as eating goes. But I keep in mind that the weight didn't go on all at once and it won't come off all at once (except for Lori and her 10+ lbs this week! Way to go, girl!).
I manage to do good during the day, having a reasonable breakfast at about 9AM, snack on a handful of popcorn before lunch, a nice small salad for lunch and a bit more popcorn in the afternoons. My trouble comes in the evenings with dinner. Mostly, it's not from being truly hungry, but more from the great tastes of the food. Course, being Cajun and one heck of a good cook might have something to do with that. Last night, Bunnie was at a church scouting event so Sweetie and I went out for a really nice steak dinner. We both took more than half of our dinners home, but I still felt like I overate. I guess tomorrow morning will tell (I only weigh once a week to avoid freaking out over daily fluctuations).
Have a great day and a better night, ya'll.....and remember
This therapy WORKS!!!

Nan,
Great news about your BP lowering due to CPAP. I don't know how it would have been had I stayed on the med. and did the therapy. I did the stupid thing and stopped. My doctor was not happy about that. My daughter is like I was when I was young, very low BP. But she actually fainted this past summer for the first time in her life. The doctor said it could have been due to hormones or her low BP. It hasn't happened again since, thank goodness.
You're right about some of the weight loss being actual lbs. and not all water. I have been sticking to my habits now for a little over three months and had hit a plateau and then started walking two and a half miles a day, which probably helped. I find it more enjoyable and more beneficial than riding my recumbent bike indoors. When the weather gets bad, I'll go back to the bike or bundle up real good and still walk. It does warm you up when you get the heart rate up anyway.
So you fell off course this week...that's okay. Just get back on and keep going. Have you weighed yourself to know if you actually did any damage? Maybe you'll be surprised and you won't have gained. Well, tomorrow is Friday so...good luck !

Of course you were retaining water ... you were coming down with a cold! (Hindsight is 20/20).

Okay. You can call me stupid, but I feel getting educated is worth it. Would that be the same type of "water" that is considered the water retaining weight gainer type? I would never have thought so, but I have probably the world's least scientific mind. I'm really surprised. I thought congestion produced the fluid as you have a cold day by day, not that it's stored up in your body waiting to leave. You learn something new every day, thank goodness. I never knew that.

I can't answer everything you asked, and I'm not sure you understood what I was saying anyway because, as usual, I didn't really explain myself.
In the days leading up to coming down with a cold I often find that I'm retaining water. Water is water, and retaining it adds weight (2.2lbs per litre, to mix systems).
For me, I find the best way to eliminate water is to drink water! What I've heard is that your body works very hard to maintain a certain electolyte balance. Too high a concentration of electrolytes requires that they be diluted, which can only happen if water is retained.
Drinking a lot of water will cause your kidneys to work harder to eliminate what your body sees as too much water which is over diluting your electrolytes. When your kidneys are working hard they are also getting rid of extras, such as waste and excess electrolytes.
Well, it works for me. The "drink lots when you have a virus" really helps me to thow the virus sooner. And I lose water weight at the same time! .

Bill,
I one-hundred percent agree with drinking water eliminates water. However, I've been doing that and, for some strange reason, obviously have been harboring a lot of it.
I just got off the phone with my doctor because Sleepybarb wrote me a post telling me my 10-lb. weight loss this week could be a sign or heart problems (I won't repeat everything she said). The doctor said, no, not to worry, but not to expect this to keep happening. The Dyazide just did its job and it probably is done now. So obviously I did need a little help with getting rid of the water. I've been drinking and drinking it, but not eliminating it. I can't tell you, though, how many more trips for elimination this pill has got me taking (how'd you like that tactful way of saying it?).

Much more delicately put than I would have said it. But then again, I'm a guy! .
