I need help!!

Post by mommaw » Thu Sep 22, 2005 11:49 pm

I d/l my data the other day and I had a very high (to me) Average Apnea Duration of 90.0 seconds. This seems scary to me. My numbers for that period were: AHI=0.5 Apneas=1 Hypopneas=1

I only wore the machine for 3.83 hours. I remember waking up feeling like I couldn't breath and jerking the mask off! I was wearing my Swift so should have been able to breath through my mouth even if my nose was stuffed up. I was kinda shaken up for a few minutes then decided to sleep the rest of the night without the machine. (Probably not a good idea).

It wasn't until I d/l the data a few days later that I saw what had happened.
Have any of you using MyEncore had a average apnea duration that long? Should I maybe contact my doctor? Should I just not worry about it and hope it doesn't happen again? My usual average duration is between 9 and 12. My previous average high was 78 seconds with an AHI of 1.6 with usage of 6.84 hrs. Anyone else having similar numbers? It scares me to think that I am not breathing for a minute and a half.

Gilda

You're right...it's not a good idea to decide to sleep at any time without using the machine.

"What you don't know CAN hurt you." Just because you don't get to see data when you're not using the machine doesn't mean things are going better. They're almost surely going much worse when you sleep without using the machine.

I'd keep using the machine religiously. And when I saw something that looked bothersome on the data, I'd be thankful that the machine was warding off MOST of that kind of thing and giving me a good AHI. Perhaps try tweaking the lower pressure up a bit to see if that will handle things better. (I'm not a doctor...just my guesses.)

rested gal,

Thanks for the "scolding" I needed it! I know you are correct in what you said and I have been slipping a little lately. I was 100% compliant until about a month ago and have hit a hard spot. It seems some nights I just can't tolerate any mask on my face. I have 5 and change them around as I get intolerate of them. I can always tell the next day when I have slept without the machine, I feel really crappy all morning.

I wish I could find out why i would go so long without breathing. 90 seconds seems such a long time to me . I just wonder if anyone else has had that kind of apnea duration.

Again thanks for the words of encouragement,

Gilda

Yes maybe your pressure it too low, or maybe slept with your mouth open? That would keep the pressure from the machine from being able to build up, since most of it would be leaking from your mouth.

But definitely keep using your machine like Rested Gal said, who knows how long they are without it!
