It says XP, 2000 etc but NOT Vista nor Windows 7 since neither OS "existed" when software was ditributed.

I was hoping that there might be a "round about' way!

I was under the impression that Win 7 had an "XP mode" (of some sort).

I helped a local guy who had his 1.4 running on Windows 7 but I don't think he had 64 bit.

Please do keep us posted on how you make out.

computer novice here ------ I think it depends on what version of windows 7 you obtain whether or not there is an XP mode capability - it is something I need to know if I buy a new PC but I haven't researched it yet.

7 allows you to run a program as xp but unfortunately does not allow you to install the program!

None of the windowns version comes with XP. If you have Windows 7 ultimate you can download and install Windows virtual machine and then Windows XP virtual. When you install xp virtual you are installing a full version of Windows XP. If the software runs on Windows XP it should run on Windows 7 Ultimate under XP virtual.

I am running version 1.8 not an older version but not the newest version on my Windows 7 Ultimate computer. I had to install Windows virtual machine and then Windows XP virtual. The install went way to easy as did setup and starting the program. I did run into a problem about a week later with the card reader. That is something separate it is a windows setting, where the card reader has to be changed from running manually to automatic. If you can't find the card reader fix by doing a search give me a shout and I can send it to you. It is in one of my posts somewhere.

As far as running the software on Windows 7 home premium, it won't run. I tried installing it and it's a no go. You can't install the Windows virtaul machine or Windows XP virtual on home premium either, it's not allowed by Microsoft and Windows won't allow it to install.

Best of luck

Gerry

I have Windows 7 Pro and installed the XP virtual machine. I installed the Encore Pro in the XP virtual mode and got the software to come up with no problem. Did the same with Encore Pro Analyzer. I installed the card reader with the drivers that come with the Encore Pro software.

I got the Encore Pro to read the card - but the next day it wouldn't read it, then it would. I tried everything and I have no idea why it wouldn't. Others have gotten it to work using the XP virtual mode. I warn you that it probably will be necessary to install MS SQL on your Windows 7 in order for Encore to find the database that it will use. This can be a real adventure in itself.

I finally gave up and installed the Encore on my XP laptop where it works like a charm.

No need to install the sql server separately Encore installs what it needs just like it did in XP because you are installing it in a real version of XP, with the exception that it is running in a shell under 7. The card reader is the problem. You need to open task manager and click on the third tab from the right, which will be services. Then click on the heading for description and click it again if the list isn't alphabetical. Look down at the bottom right corner you will see a button that says services, go ahead and click that button and another window will pop up. Scroll down and you will see smart card. Right click on smart card and click on properties. Under startup type, click automatic then click ok to close the box. Now go back to task manager and go to description and scroll down to smart card, i may say stopped or manual. Right click in and choose start service, and you will see it change status to running. Now go ahead and close everything down and reboot your computer. You can now start your software and the card reader will work fine every time.

I hope this wasn't too hard to follow. I was trying to write it while on the phone.

I installed virtual XP using:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx

BUT my PC does NOT have all requirements needed to run!!

Says I need hardware assisted virtualization support in the computer!

Darn PC is only 3 years old

This means your processor does not support VT. If unsure whether an Intel processor supports Intel VT-x or not, check the Intel Processor Spec Finder for official information. http://processorfinder.intel.com/

For one to do this in Windows 7 one's processor must support VT and one must have Windows 7 Professional or above.

I have Windows 7 Pro installed ,unfortunately I wasted this evening attempting to revive my pc!

I have a Vista 64 bit laptop and I am planning on installing the Windows 7 Pro. Would I be able to load the Encore Pro 1.6 in either 64bit or 32 bit using the Virtual XP?

With Windows 7 Pro and above, and if your Processor supports VT which you can verify here:

http://www.grc.com/securable.htm
(left side for 32 bit, right side for 64 bit)

Both requirements for OS and hardware must be fulfilled, then yes.
