OCNorsk wrote:Ok Since you asked, I have a question, too. I have 2714 therapy hours and 2733 blower hours. No one has ever used/owned the machine but me. Over the last year I have watched the disparity between the numbers grow. I don't use it as a leaf blower or to dust my keyboard. From what is the difference? When the machine is on, it's on me, except for the few seconds it takes to turn the machine off after I take the mask off.
In my post, I just noticed a 44 hour difference between my numbers. So, I'm wondering the same thing as you! Only, I have just a wife and 2 cats loose in the house.

Of course, one cat is smart enough to turn the thing off on me sometimes in the morning when she wants food, but they don't go near my CPAP machine otherwise.

Yesterday was my sixth month CPAP anniversary. When I checked to se how many hours I had, I found it was 1111. I have only missed one night, which was back in my second week. I was afraid I would miss an early plane because I wasn't used to sleeping soundly and had never before needed an alarm clock when I traveled. 1111 bours averages to little over six hours a night. That seems like too little, but when I try going to bed early I just wake up early.

So a high leak rate would mean that the user hours are going up, but the therapy is not happening and therefore not counted?
My leak rate seems high, but as someone else posted on another thread, I do better when the leak rate is up.

Uncle Buck... hang in there. I started in May 2008. Was ready to quit (and actually sorta had) when I found this board in January 2009. I've had two good nights in a row (knock on wood). As spotty as my success has been, since I've had the help from the board, I haven't really considered giving up since. My motto usually is, "If at first you don't succeed, give up."
So that's a big accomplishment for me.

Third machine, plus one spare--had it for almost 3 months ( 83 days) with approximately 620 hours on it. I had my first machine (Solo) for 4 years, and my second (virtuoso) for 7 years. An M series came after the virtuoso, but I didn't like it. So it is a backup. Intellipap is a winner!

I don't think a high leak rate would show up as hours used but not as therapy. At one point I had extremely high leak rates over 100 and it showed up as therapy but with a high leak rate.

I am going to make another post about machine hours therapy Vs blower hours.

My Respironics manual indicates that times when the machine is used less than 4 hours add into the blower hours metering, but do not add into the therapy hours metering. I do know that there have been quite a few times that I have had difficulty getting asleep and then got up for an hour or so to get more in the mood for sleep. However, I am averaging about 7 hours therapy use per night for a three year ownership of this particular machine.

I read the manual, but that was before I was being successfully treated for osa so I have a reason for forgetting that.

Thanks for the info.

That just shows that we aren't all 100% compliant. I know I still have mornings when I wake upand my mask is off, but they are far and few in between.

I am on my fifth full-time machine. If I had been on one machine the entire past 14 years, it would have over 40,000 hours on it.

CPAP for 5 years ... CPAP * 6 hrs/night *365 nights/yr * 5 years = 10,950 hours
BiPAP for 11 years ... BiPAP * 6 hrs/night * 365 nights/yr *11 years = 24,090 hours
BiPAP M Series Auto for 2 years ... BiPAP * 4 hrs/night * 365 nights/yr * 2 years = 2,920 hours
ASV for 1 month ... ASV for 5 hrs/night * 10 yeas = 50 hours

So, roughly 38,000 hours (plus or minus several thousand hours). Just one or two hours using xPAP therapy! I knew I had used these puppies for a while, but that's amazing! Now, THAT's one cool exercise!

[ Edit ... Sheesh! I miskeyed a number and ended up with a ridiculously high number of hours. Almost 40,000 is quite high, but much more realistic than the almost 260,000 I previously had! ]

That would explain the discrepancy for me. I sometimes have very short sessions. Thanks, Duke.

First Machine....2700.4 therapy hours, 2716.5 blower hours, 354 sessions...hmmm, that's an average of 7.63 hours per session.

Closing in on my first year anniversary.

My above post was from a data report. I was looking at my machine this morning My machine has over 7800 hrs on it.

I forgot to post that I have been using this machine since July of 2007.
