Read again, Cinco. DSM's profile has had Sydney, Australia as his home for as long as I've been in this forum.
Slinky, according to DSM's response to my inquiry, you are mistaken. I've highlighted the part that you didn't Read.

I work on my therapy for much less money than they charge and I make house calls 24 x 7(Hell, I am usually already there.)
And that's fine! But you also don't make the silly claim that "most CPAPers" do the same.

(And I fully believe you have conversations with your patient ... does he charge extra for the "se"? )

Neither would I make that claim - but - I believe - "Most Cpapers SHOULD be doing the same" - just like most diabetics do the same under much more difficult situations. It is not rocket science, most electronic gadgets out there are much more complex. Driving a car is much more complex and dangerous but over 50% of people do not stop driving within a year of getting their license.

That would be nice, but only if they are educated, motivated and competent enough to do so.

I was shocked and dismayed the other day when a long-time member here claimed he/she would never make changes without knowing all the risks. In another thread, the same individual asked what are the risks of high pressure and central apneas. Obviously, this person has been making changes for some time WITHOUT knowing everything involved or discussing the proposed change with a doctor.

Should CPAPers who just THINK they know the ramifications of their actions be "taking charge"? No, it isn't rocket science...it's practicing medicine.

DSM, sometime before posting to this thread, changed his profile and "lost" his location. After my inquiry, he changed his profile to again show his location, and posted a response to my inquiry with his final sentence stating: "Profile Updated". As Sherlock Holmes stated, "Elementary".

If you still have questions, PM DSM.

Please note that a posting contains a link/pointer to the member's profile. Whenever a member updates his/her profile, all postings by that member (all the way back to #1) now show the new updated profile.

Based purely on Cinco's comment I had a look to see that dsm's location really was missing at that point. But then dsm edited his location back in.

Who cares at this point?

And now, back to the show!

No it isn't practicing medicine - it is practicing good personal health care. Just like I take my vitamins, do exercise and try to eat healthy, brush my teeth and read my temperature if I feel sick to decide if I take over the counter meds or go visit the clinic. I wash my cutting board and implements after working with poultry and I am capable of deciding which left overs are safe. Not only that but I am considered capable of practicing safe sex - probably far far more dangerous these days then using a cpap machine. Besides us women are also given the power to decide our fertility and monthly cycles with minimum intervention from our physicians plus if we decide to have a kid we can do so without the benefit of a physician - if you think using CPAP is a complicated and a pain try planning and having a baby sometime!

Love your analogy. I'm so glad that I only have to deal with my CPAP-enabled therapy. No way would I want to deal with a pregnancy.

I agree with your statement that monitoring and managing our CPAP-enabled sleep therapy does not fit the standard use of the phrase "practicing medicine". Like many members have posted previously - it's only AIR.

"Practicing medicine" when it entails requiring a RX for a MASK raises my distaste and disgust for the entire Sleep Dr. / DME / XPAP Manufacturer industry. As others have repeatedly said, it is all about the money.

Rocket science: Mixing chemicals together and blowing things up.

Practicing medicine: Tweaking the pressure and blowing your brains out.

The way things are going, I will order extra copies of all manufacturers' software and store them in my bomb shelter.

What? And take valuable space away from your porn collection???

We try our best to NOT blow things up! I have a sign above my desk that says "Yes, it IS rocket science!" (I guess that's funny only if you know where I work... google: SWFLANT )

I remember when 'safe sex' meant having a padded headboard!
