Drained Dad,
Congratulations on soon becoming a grandpa. I think that's wonderful. And obviously you aren't too young to become one (LOL). Hope all goes well and by next year you have a healthy baby grandson or daughter.

If it makes you feel any better I used to work with a lady that was 32 at the time. She came in all upset because her 16 year old daughter was pregnant and she was also "too young" to be a grandmother. Quick math shows that 32-16=16. Like mother, like daughter. That, of course, wasn't the point. Once the kid was born she was the typical doting grandmother.

At least you're still young enough to enjoy your grandkids. My wife wasn't happy when she figured out that she'll be 58 before our son graduates highschool, much less has kids of his own. Of course I'll only be 53 then.

With me being 36 and my wife 41 our son has run out of official grandparents. Luckily my wife has a pair of cousins that live close by with no grandkids despite having five grown kids of their own. They've stepped up and are his surrogate grandparents.

Lori and Snowdog,

Thanks for the encouragement. I am thankful for all of my children. I am blessed that my daughter has a wonderful husband and are excited about being parents. There are too many "unwanted" "accidents". This grandchild will not be on of them. I still feel too young to be a grandpa! But then I also feel too old to have a four year old!

Well, isn't that an advertisement for CPAP therapy! Be glad you feel that well. You're going to need loads of energy, as you well know, when the new baby arrives and you now take on grandparent duties as well as dad duties...I'm so envious of you. I am 48 with my oldest being 22 and just graduated college, so I have a few years to wait till that wonderful time of grandchildren (and I'm not being sarcastic). I will welcome it with open arms.

Best of luck, you lucky man.

Funny thing, just before my son was born I attended a "Daddy Bootcamp" at the hospital. The room was organised in kind of a circle with the podium at the front of the room. Being the first guy there I took the left-hand seat closest to the podium. By the time the class started there were 12 of us. During the introductions I noticed that the class was split exactly with 6 guys in their late teens and early 20's and 6 guys 30-something and above (the oldest was in his 50's). Not only that but the way people had organised themselves was that all of us old guys were on the left side of the circle and all the young'uns were on the right with four or five empty seats seperating the two groups. Weird eh?

A friend of mine on a MC (motorcycle) list attended a simular session a year ago when his yougest child was born. At the time I believe he was in Sweden, he was the youngest of 10 or 20, he was 36 (IIRC).

I am 38, my wife (35) is expecting our first late December. I still would like to have 3 kids. Stacy, on the other hand, is suggesting one or two

Hey Bill, how old was Tery and his wife when they found out little John was on his way?

cheers,
Tom

IIRC, Terry was 49 (50 by the time John was born) and his was was 42 (?). John was their first (and last) child.

To all of us over fifty group, Grandchildren are a pay back for all of the things our children did while they were growing up , the great thing about Grandchildren is that you can spoil them rotten and then you can send them home.

I can hardly wait!

OK, my daughter is only about to turn 18, I guess I can wait after all.

It doesn't matter much if we feel like we're old enough or whether we can wait or not. Its up to our kids at this point. Regardless of what we say or how we feel our kids will do what they want. You can only hope that you have trained them well and that when they do have kids, they will be better prepared for parenting than we were. What does matter is,that whether we are playing with our own kids or our grandkids, we can play. Before treatment I only wanted to sleep all the time. Now, even though there are up days and down days, I at least have the energy to play. I am so thankful for CPAP!
