OK here's the list of places I have been to so far in search for distilled water

1. Tesco
2. Dunnes
3. Local Pharmacy stores
4. Halfords
5. Boots

and none had distilled water. When I was travelling in the US all supermarkets had it in gallon containers, like Publix and Walmart...

In Tesco and Halfords I got battery water which somewhere said deionised but didn't say distilled.

I read in the board that many insist on tap water but knowing our water quality I will refrain from using it in my humidifier...

Any help guys (from Ireland)?

Did you try a Tescos with a Pharmacy in it?
While in London I found a Tescos with a Pharmacy that had distilled water, it was not out on the general grocery shelves.

I never saw a Tesco in Ireland with its own Pharmacy wing (must be a UK thingy?). They just have a few shelves with OTC medicines that's all....

With all of the distilleries in Ireland, none of them have water inside?

I had a hard time finding it in Virginia. Everywhere I went the shelves were empty. I wondered what everyone was using it for, I have never purchased it before now.

Hmmm..... you would think that would be common anywhere in the world.

You could consider getting a home distiller. You don't need a whole lot of water, so a small model would probably meet your needs.

You can use non-distilled water. But you will need to clean everything a lot more frequently. Also, keep your humidifier tank full, and change it every night (keeps crud in solution and not on tank walls). Use the cleanest water you can. Using filtered water, especially through an RO filter will help.

That is so strange that you can't find it easily over there.

Do the grocery stores sell purified water? Sometimes the drinking water they sell here is Reverse Osmosis treated, but they add minerals to the water for taste. It still might be better and easier to clean than the tap water.

I buy 12 gallons of distilled water on a regular basis! I use the water to make lotions and creams for my business. What I really need to do is just bite the bullet and buy a medium sized distiller. I'm getting tired of the trips to the grocery store just for distilled water.

On the other hand, it's easy to take a gallon home now and then to use in my machine.

You might want to look into buying a table top distiller. You can use it for your machine and drink it too.

Wow toast how much are you getting through? A gallon maybe lasts me two weeks.
Given that we buy two gallons of milk and a gallon of drinking water for the coffee machine per week, one additional gallon is not too much inconvenience on our grocery shop

especially when its the wife doing the shop

I wish you luck in getting the water you need DublinBoyo. I'm going to be heading to Afghanistan sometime in the near future, and I know that I'll have a bit of a problem finding it myself. I have the Army trying to get it for me so that I can have a stockpile at the location I'll be at, but I'm sure that won't work out too well.

Hospitals have to have it. When I was hospitalized, the hospital gave me sterile water to use...not quite the same thing as distilled but it worked. If I had to use filtered water on a regular basis, I'd just do a water-vinegar soak to dissolve any minerals.

The interest in distilled water for general human consumption is a particularly North American thing, and is not at all common elsewhere.

In most of the world distilled water is primarily used for specific medical and industrial purposes and it is not commonly available in retail outlets such as supermarkets etc.

How about buying a water distiller (it runs on electiricity). DSM has one - search his posts.

In Israel it's easily available in pharmacies, but you have to ask for it at the medication counter -- and bring you own bottle for them to fill. You won't find it on any counter. It is used (has been for years) in steam irons.

Yes I saw such water as to be used for irons and batteries (top up) but none of them says distilled or for medical use so I am concerned! I still didn't get any Irish posting here about it - there are a lot of apnea patients in Ireland and many of them use CPAPs so was wondering why we didn't see them here on the forum??!!!!
