Terry,
First off, let me say I can relate to that and I'm sorry you are going through it right now. Losing a loved one, regardless if it's human or pet, is unbearable pain. But you have your strong belief in God and I'm sure you know your pet will be in a better place than we are when it's time to say goodbye. Not to mention, your strong faith and beliefs will guide you and get you through this, too, I'm sure.
A best friend of mine for over 30 years is going through a double distress situation. She owns two poodles, who basically are her children since she never had any. One was diagnosed about two years ago with Cushings Disease and the other just recently was diagnosed with spleen cancer and had her spleen removed. She still has a tumor of some type in her liver of which they're not sure if it's the same as the spleen's was. However, she has been spending so much time, energy and money trying to keep this dog happy, healthy and alive with everything from chemo to holistic remedies. Most people I know wouldn't go through the expense, mentally and financially, that she is/has, but she loves her dogs/daughters so much. This morning she was bringing her in to have a sonogram to see what the treatment has done for her. I am waiting to hear from her when she gets home.
I can relate to what you're going through. Our dog of 10 years died the morning we came back from vacation and we never got a chance to say goodbye to her. She was my second sister while I was growing up. Nothing I can say to you will make it easier, except know, like with everything else, we are all here for support. You'll know when the time is right to make that move. Your dog and the Lord above will guide you, I'm sure.
So much for my six-mile walk this morning I was going to talk about...seems kind of unimportant right now.
PS: 19 years, by the way, is a long time to be blessed to have her in your life. Thank you-know-who for that...
