Any interest in pre-made swift LT wicks for sale
Re: Any interest in pre-made swift LT wicks for sale
Rooster, I just have to weigh in here and disagree with you a little bit.
I agree with all your remedies you listed. But those of us using SMALL masks - pillows, prongs, and cannulas - have an added condensation issue. That tiny little space just doesn't respond as well to all the typical "rainout" tricks. A wick can really be a life saver during those times when you're constantly having to pull off the mask, shake it out, and wipe it down with a tissue. The "rainout" isn't coming from the hose - it's coming from the nose.
I've done all the listed remedies, including ditching the hose hanger, and during CERTAIN PERIODS, I just can't fix the condensation inside the mask itself. My Nasal Aire II cannula just doesn't have enough room to "breathe" on it's own. I can really see how a Swift LT and a Headrest would have the same issues. It's not a CONSTANT struggle with me, only now and again, so I'm not rushing out to get a wick. But those nights it's a bother, I can really sympathize with those that want a wick!
Cheers,
Barbara

Babs,
It's a poor solution. I hope newbies coming here will exhaust all the "standard" ways of dealing with rainout before they see this.
There is still a suspicion that people are choosing a humidifier setting that is too high. Gerald, what setting are you using in Louisiana?

Ahh--now I get it. A real fan, huh? Yup, me too. I think I was in 9th grade when all "us girls" had a sleep-over to watch em on the Ed Sullivan Show that first time. We, however had more class than to roll on the floor screaming, and simply shrieked "oh my god!!" over & over till we wet our pants .rooster wrote:I changed it to honor the day on September 9.
I still remember rolling on the floor and screaming in front of our little black-and-white TV watching them on Ed Sullivan.
Got 'em on my IPOD now.
Okay--end of interruption of the tread. Thanks.

I remember watching them on Ed Sullivan too, on a black & white TV. Dancing to the music. Nice tribute Rooster. Now, enough said.

I certainly qualify as a newbie , however I have to disagree with your 'setting the humidifier too high' statement. I have always had condensation in the pillows of my Swift LT, even without a humidifier attached, and I never had any condensation in my Comfort Gel mask. Now that I am starting to get a dry nose I put on the humidifier, turned it to 2 and then ended up with both pillow and hose condensation, which was like drowning every time I moved. I was able to fix the hose condensation (for this season anyway) with some of the other fixes listed here but still can't fix the pillow condensation. My humidifier is now turned to 0 and is doing the passover thing and, of course, I get condensation in the pillows. The good news is that by adding in the humidifier turned to 0 my nose is no longer dry!rooster wrote:Babs,

Long story short, I got rainout in my Swift LT without a humidifier . . .

It's been a hard day's night, and I've been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright
You know I work all day to get you money to buy you things
And it's worth it just to hear you say you're gonna give me everything
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
You know I feel okay
When I'm home everything seems to be right
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight, yeah
It's been a hard day's night, and I've been working like a dog

Re: Any interest in pre-made swift LT wicks for sale
The problem with the SwiftLT that some people who use it are having, obviously has nothing to do with rainout as we know it!
I think if the people who have this problem with the SwiftLT find that these wicks help with the problem, then I say that's great!

Rooster.....
I'm running my "M" Series Integral Humidifier on a setting of "1"......and by experimentation, that's just enough for me. For sleeping, we keep the bedroom at 70 F and the relative humidity at about 45%. I tried a setting of "0"....passover mode.....but that wasn't quite comfortable enough.
Even though I have a hose cover and a hose hanger (this gives me an upside-down "P" trap), I still had rainout caused by exhaled breath. Once i added the cotton string wick, I had no more rainout. In my experiment, I was careful to not change any variables....room temp....room humidity.....humidifier setting.....pressure setting......ONLY the string was added......and that did the trick.
For the past month, I've been running an additional experiment with good results. On my nose-piece, I cut a small hole to let "bleed-air" out....in a position between my nares. This hardly affected my leak rate at all.....but it has reduced the condensation in the nose-piece caused by exhaled breath.
I have had no rainout for 1-year.....thanks to the wick.

Having snorted water in the middle of the night, I would say yes there is interest for these things. I'm sure Pad-a-cheeks, hose covers, hose hangers and scents to smell all have limited marketability. Why someone who is using different mask should look down on another persons idea, I don't know. We come here for lots of ideas to get this therapy to work. What works for one person, may not work for another. But then again, it may.

I can hear them singing it and I'll be singing it to my cpap machine tonight.
I never get rain out, but my machine is on the floor and my humidifier setting is 0-2 depending on the humidity in the air.
