ResMed Auto here, AIs <1 (many nights 0) while HIs may be as much as 2.4. AHI always under 2.5. During PSG, no apena events only hypops with little SWS and no REM.

Here's a spot to look up any abbreviations for yourself, rather than having to wait for an answer......
http://www.sandmansleep.com/resources/glossary.cfm#S
SWS--Sleep-Wake Shift (-change, -reversal) – sleep wholly or partially moved to a time of customary waking activity, and the latter is moved to the habitual sleep period; common in jet lag and shift work.

I didn't vote as my HI was always in the 0.5 to 1.5 range on the respironics machine. Now with the resmed, the HI is around 10.... so I ignore this number completely. My AI is what I pay attention to. When things are going well, my AI is around 2. I can count on one hand in the 2.5 years I have been at this where I had an AI of less than 1.

Scrapper got one of several right answers... However, that's not the SWS that most sleep studies summarize. And they're certainly not talking about me in those sleep-study summaries...
The kind of SWS that Muse mentioned is
"Slow Wave Sleep":

(Thanks to your help, guys) almost always 0 - 0.5, rarely over .05 but it can happen. Not a Resmed user. Statistically evens out between apneas and hypopneas. I can feel the difference in my energy levels if I go over 1.5, but under that am usually okay.
I also get the best therapy with the Activa Mask rather than the Swift II, but no idea why - leak #s don't change.

Secret agent girl, to expand your continuing secret agent education, I would also point you to the following page:
http://helpguide.org/life/sleeping.htm
It provides a good explanation of the various sleep stages. Slow Wave Sleep (SWS) describes the brain wave during stages 3 and 4 of sleep. Stages 1 through 4 are now known as NREM (or Non-REM) sleep. And typically, most researchers (and sleep studies) seem to lump Stages 3 and 4 together. The following articles provide very readable information on sleep:
http://www.semel.ucla.edu/sites/all/fil ... msleep.pdf
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... 65,00.html
Finally, if you want to delve deeper, I recommend the following article:

Respironics BiPAP Auto M. Typically around 3, but enough spikes to around 10 to bring the mean above 5.

Thanks for the links JohnBFisher!
I noticed that if I spend some time in a light sleep, as happens when I hit the snooze button several times after my alarm goes on, that my AHI goes up quite a bit. The increase is mostly in Hi's but I do get some AI's as well. Is this to be expected? I do not yet have my card reader to post my results, but I did get a print-out from my respiratory therapist and it shows many events during this time. Any comments?

That settled, can we move on to a more important subject. Like the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin, or the number of whiskers in the Kaiser's beard?

I'm definitely pulling for the same mfr machine for my husband as I have.
He's maddeningly competitive.
