Since this has risen to the top of the queue again, I'll post because I find my results interesting and still don't quite understand them, unless it's that I only slept deeply a teeny-tiny bit of the night at the sleep lab. My AHI during REM sleep only was recorded as 6.5. I still think something doesn't quite add up.

Original sleep study, AHI = 1.2 per hour
Titration at 9 cm pressure, AHI = 0.0 per hour
RemStar Pro at home at 9 cm pressure, AHI = 18-23
RemStar Pro after adjusting to 9.5 cm pressure, AHI = 2-3 (and daytime sleepiness banished)

My AHI was 147. Needless to say, no matter how much my masks annoy me (and I switch out between two that are equally annoying), I will remain 100% compliant, because I feel two hundred times better than I did.

What SleepyWolverine said. My untreated AHI was 91 events per hour.

GumbyCT wrote:I was handed a post-it with 62 scribbled on it by the PA at my sleep center. Had to go back the next nite cuz the sleep tech never asked me to sleep supine. So back I go the very next nite for more titration took me from 13 to 17 cm.

Then about 6 months later when they wanted me to go back again bc my dx session was only 109 minutes and required to be min 120 min. I fired the money grubbers. I haven't looked back. In 2 nites they couldn't get 120 min dx? by bye bi

So they wanted me to go have 124 more apneas so they could cover 11 more minutes.
oh for another $3,500.
NOT
That is pretty sad. When I scored sleep studies and I was short 11 minuets, Ican usuallyy go back and "find" 11 minuets. Now if it was 30 or an hour, that is hard to do, but come on....11!!!???

Scarlet could it be that your sleep lab AHI is your titrated AHI?

Scarlet I just reread your post. It would seem that one of those numbers is wrong, at least thats my first impression, i'd also be interested in any different opinions to the contrary. My reasoning is that if your original AHI was that low, its doubtful that theyed of put you on CPAP.

I just don't put much into AHI or the AHI from the Sleep Study. My Sleep Study results are never a good reflection of how I normally sleep nor how I truly feel. Unfortunate....

And, to make matters worse... If I'm not functioning because of Complex Sleep Apnea, I'm not really able to describe to the Doctor how I feel. Or, I'm not attentive enough to make an appointment when feeling run down. Even the best doctors can't help a patient who can't help themselves.

My study was 15 years ago. I don't remember the number, but I could hardly ever forget what my doctor said: "If you don't have UUUP surgery TOMORROW you could be dead or seriously brain damaged by the day after." And he went on to tell me that even with the surgery, which he called painful and dreadful, the best I could hope for was to cut the number in half, which would still be "extremely severe apnea." He may sound rather dramatic, but over the years I have learned he is/was anything but. He is just a blunt, no B.S. kind of guy.
Anyway, I had the surgery the next day, spent a few days in the hospital high on morphine, later fought like heck with my insurance company because they had not pre-approved the request despite my surgeon telling them that my life was in danger, and soon got my mask, and slept for the first time in years.

Didn't adapt to the mask easily, but by now I love it. Really, really love it. I travel with it, fly with it, camp with it, sail with it, etc. I'm on my 4th different machine over the decade plus.Wouldn't think of trying to sleep without it. Put it on, count to three, and I am out cold. My son's rock band could play in my bedroom with the amps blaring, and I wouldn't wake up.

Ave pressure is 14 plus or minus.
AHI is always under 5, and mostly under three. If I have a glass of wine, and no more than two, I am usually under ONE. (Yes, wine HELPS my apnea if I limit my consumption)
Sleeping with a mask is A LOT better than being dead, I believe. My wife and kids sure think so. In fact, it is a piece of cake.

I am new to all of this. I just had my first sleep test and Dr told me I stopped breathing 24 times in an hour. and stopped breathing for 51 seconds . I really don't understand which number is AHI and what it all means. Dr wants me to go for a second test and use a cpap. I have a problem with panic attacks and barely got through the first test. Please explain what results mean

it sounds like he's saying your AHI was 24 and your longest apnea was 51 seconds. Your AHI is your apneas + Hypopneas devided by the total hours slept. This is usually the figure your sleep doc will look at to determine if you need cpap. In your case the doc wants to do a titration. It will essentially be the same as your prior test with the addition of placeing you on cpap and titrating the pressure while you sleep in an attempt to find the best pressure to eliminate your apnes and hypopneas. There are many other factors that need to be looked at, which I assume your doc is doing. Just relax as much as possible and tell yourself that this is the beginning of a new beginning where you may sleep better, have more energy and be able to live life to its fullest without the baggage sleep apnea can bring. Most of us felt the same way you do right now, but its doable, and its the best thing I've done for myself by having it done....Good Luck to you...
