I just got the fax of my results. It shows 144 minutes of sleep (I'm surprised there was that much sleep) with sleep efficiency of 80%.

There were a total of 87 respiratory events, with 11 central apneas, 0 obstructive apneas, 76 hypopneas and 0 mixed events. Can someone interpret this for me? I thought this meant that I don't have OSA but a few paragraphs down it reads, "The study revealed the patient did have severe obstructive apnea."

Other data: Respiratory disturbance index per hour was 36. Oxyhemoglobin desaturations down to a nadir of 88%. Mean oxygen saturation 94% during non-REM sleep.

The 76 Hypopneas will get you the diagnosis all by itself. Would need a bit of math to break those down from 76 in 144 minutes to how many per hour, but roughly 31 AHI per hour. Hypopneas do count and can hurt you.

You might want to research central apneas also. That is a different beast entirely.

Interesting what your report said about Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). As you said, earlier in the report, it indicated zero OSA events but a number of Central Sleep Apnea events. From my reading, there are three types of sleep apnea, namely: OSA, Central Sleep Apnea (CSA), and Complex Sleep Apean ( combination of OSA and CSA). Sounds like you need to have a discussion with your sleep doctor to explain the results to you. My understanding is that treatments for CSA is different that for OSA.

That'll do it. Apneas + hypops >30 = "severe" apnea. You destaturated from narrowed airways (cause of hypops)...not getting air into lungs; ideal oxygen saturation is 100%, good is >93%, anything less is not so good.

Depending on what your doc decides, you might be getting a more complex device than most of us have due to the centrals.

My titration study ended 3 1/2 hours ago. I am cautiously optimistic.

In truth, I'm very excited, but I don't want to get my hopes dashed. I feel amazing, and I suspect that's only on 4-5 hours of sleep.

There was no trouble getting a full-fask mask. The RT asked if I breath through my nose or my mouth, and I told her mouth. No arguments, I got a full-face mask.

The sensation from the CPAP was different from what I expected. It was more like being in a pressurized airplane cabin than like breathing into a strong breeze. (At least once the pressure was up and the mask was sealed properly.)

They tell me I'll need to wait about a week for the results. I wish I could just get a machine today!

Got my titration sleep study results. I slept 4 1/2 hours. Previously I slept a little over 2 hours.
My AHI (number of respiratory events per hour) on CPAP was 1.2. Previously without CPAP it was 36.
Still no obstructive apneas, but had 2 centrals and 3 hypopneas.

I have a prescription for a CPAP titrated at 9 and have placed an order on CPAP.com. I can't wait to get my machine.

what kind of machine did you order?

I bet you made a mistake and ordered the wrong machine. By "wrong machine" I mean one that doesn't have full data capability, card reader and software. You need this to monitor apneas, hypopneas, snore, pressure and mask leak.

If you did make this mistake, call cpap.com immediately and ask them to put your order on hold. Then talk to some experienced members here and get it right.

(I hope I lose this bet.)

Congrats! Sounds like you're off to a great start. Tell us how you're doing on the hose. I'm glad you had good luck with the FFM; a secondary mask is always good for those just in case times. I hope you find the hybrid-style mask as comfortable as many of us here have found this style to be...they should pay me for pushing this mask style

You might consider asking your doctor for an Ambien for the titration study. It does not affect the normal sleep stages like many OTC sleep aids do.
