I used to drive semi's across Canada and the United States... talk about messed up sleep cycles!

Driving all night... occasional delivery/pickup during the day at odd hours... catch sleep where you can.

When I would come in off the road the only thing that would straighten me out was going to bed and getting in a good sleep... then resuming a normal schedule after that. It would take a coupla days to get back in sync

Be careful what you wish for. Many of us fall asleep immediately because we are chronically fatigued.

I'm really surprised to see that most of you who have voted rarely have trouble falling asleep.

I thought everyone slept as misserably as I did. LOL

Truth be told, that has gotten SO MUCH better since starting my cpap therapy... Does anyone know why? I have been insomniac since I was a toddler. I have actually been hospitalized for complications related to sleep deprivation... And suddenly I hook this hose up to my face and I can't wait to get in the bed and end up sleeping like widdle babe most nights. I think I have had one sleepless night in over a month! (knock on wood!)

Thank goodness, right? Not complaining!

My sleep cycle has been off as long as I can remember. I was always a night owl, even as a kid. If I didn't force it, my natural schedule would be to sleep from about 4am to 11am. I feel like I've tried everything to get on a regular schedule. But even if I'm going to bed at a normal time, it just takes one night to stay up late and my schedule is totally messed up again. It's just so easy to slip into that cycle of staying up all night. And FWIW, I don't eat breakfast.

I think I'll be a guinea pig and try the breakfast thing this week...

Well, for anyone who might have been interested

I did the exeriment. 3 or 4 days ago, I ate dinner about 4:00 p.m. and didn't eat again until morning. I had set my alarm clock for 6 and actually ended up waking up spontaneously at 4:30. (I had gone to sleep between ten and eleven p.m. after reading for a while.) I ate breakfast around 5:30.

I have been waking up between five and six o'clock each morning since then.

In case you are wondering, this is not at ALL like me.

I know the CPAP is helping me sleep and I am being so much more alert and awake during the day. Plus there has been a lot of excitement going on with school starting, so I can't blame this all on my little experiment. Still... I can't ever remember a time in my life when I have gotten up that early--willingly--except on a rare isolated occassion. Never for days in a row.
