The first night, I had it set to 20 minutes. Second night was 10, the third night and ever since, it's a 5 minute ramp. Feels comfortable to me.

Just cannot tolerate the ramp feature--seems like I'm not getting enough air while it ramps up. I just start my machine at my full minimum pressure. Works for me!

I used the ramp for awhile, and then turned it off. Now I'm trying to wean myself off the EPR, so I turned the ramp back on. 10 minutes, starting at a pressure of 9. (Titrated pressure is 13.) I had no problem weaning off the ramp, but I am having difficulty weaning off the EPR.

Used it for a night or two then turned it off. Couldn't breathe.

After more than two years of CPAP, I turned the C-Flex all the way down a few weeks ago and now I'm sleeping better and getting better numbers all the way around. You learn as you go with this stuff.

Sometimes I think that these features are dreamed up in the lab by people who have never actually had to use them, sort of like what some software developers do. Microsoft Word has about a gazillion features but most of us only use about a dozen or so of them for what we need.

There are a lot of good points made in this thread. I guess I would just add that trying to go with a majority opinion here in comparing what works for you is probably not a good idea with cpap. Some folks thrive on high humidity; some are worse off with that. Some folks benefit from apap, some from cpap; some benefit from using various levels of flex to reduce pressure and increase ease of breathing in and/or out. The ramp has potential problems associated with it, but if you have an understanding of that, and still need some level of ramp to help you initially, go for it---regardless of what all of us say, as long as you don't have it set too low or too long. Just one opinion.

I used the ramp on my machine for the first couple of nights. After that I never turned it on again and I had no problems getting to sleep with a pressure of 12. I like it much better when the air is coming thru the mask at my needed pressure.

Ramp... yes I use ramp.

But only so my numbers are reported more accurately because the Resmed machine will not score events during ramp. So I set it for about the amount of time it takes me to fall asleep. At that point I don't care what the score is until I wake up in the morning.

I don't use it. I think it is so new people aren't afraid and give cpap a try. But after your used to it, you don't need it.

My husband and I do not use the ramp. We both feel like we are suffocating during the ramp. We both just got new machines and had to argue with two different providers who insisted on setting the ramp.

We explained that we needed control over the ramp setting because as soon as we get our hot little hands on the machines ramp is being turned off. We were told all other CPAP users liked the ramp.

I guess they are not listening to us!

My provider also set up the ramp, explained it, I tried it once, turned it off, never went back...Easier and far more comfortable without.

I use it now, but in a different way than most. I have a Resmed S8 elite II and an Intellipap Auto Adjust. I started on the S8 with a pressure of 8 cm and quickly stopped using ramp. My doc increased my pressure twice ending up at 10 cm, and still I saw no need for ramp.

Then I got my APAP with a setting of 7-14, which has become my regular machine (I only use the S* for travel now). Looking at my data I saw that during the first hour of each night I stayed around 7 cm with few or no apneas or hypopneas. Then my pressure usually creeps up to 10 cm or higher. So now my S* is set at 10, but I use the maximum ramp time starting a 7 cm. Seems to work and it makes things more consistent for me at bedtime, even on travel.
